I've seen a couple like that, it's not looking good for the NFL. They need the real refs back asap.

Apparently, they met until 2am last night with no deal getting done.

Given the reaction to Week 3 from fans and players(incl the NFLPA) alike, the pressure is on. One more week like that and we could have a very interesting situation on our hands.

Indeed, can imagine if that game had been a playoff game or the Super Bowl?

It would've been bad, yes. But, at this point the importance of the a game is becoming irrelevant.
Given this statement by the NFLPA; Quote:
The decision by the NFL owners to lockout the referees jeopardizes your health and safety. This decision to remove over 1,500 years of collective experience has simply made the workplace less safe.
It is the NFL’s duty to provide a workplace that is as safe as possible. The League will want fans, the media and sponsors to talk only about ‘the product’ on the field. We are not product. While the focus today is about a blown call and the outcome of one football game, our focus as a family of players is and will remain squarely on workplace safety. Contrary to some reports, we are not crossing any picket line. The referees are not on strike. The Owners locked them out. We are actively reviewing any and all possible actions to protect you STATEMENT SOURCE

That is true, have had that thought too that this could end up in a full blown work stoppage for the players and everyone else employed by the league.

I expect the NFL (read Ownership) to start feeling pressure from ALL sides to get a deal done, even if it means they have to capitulate on somethings they view as nonstarters.
What truly amazes me is that they view this "shoddy product" as something worthy of the NFL brand. They actually expect these replacement refs to pick up the speed and complexity of the NFL game ON THE FIELD. It's like saying "We'll train you to be a Ranger, gonna paradrop you behind enemy lines with an M4 and see what you do, welcome to boot rookie. Make it back alive, m'kay? Orientation starts at 0930 two days after your drop."

That sounds about right, not really all the fault of the refs. The league took a big gamble with the replacement refs and it is backfiring on them.

I'm not blaming any refs, replacement or official. This SNAFU falls directly on the heads of NFL ownership. The only hand these replacements had in this is agreeing to it and who wouldn't want to ref an NFL game?
