I was with the guy who "bought" it, they cut out a ton of footage with that buy. Like they cut out all the haggling. Also the buyer is very knowledgable about prices and would never overpay, take that for what you will. What sucks is they made anyone near that filming sign a confidentiality agreement so unless you were there you wouldn't know. It's reality tv, nothing is what it seems.besides if someone did pay that price it's their prerogative and not affecting you.
They HAVE to edit these things... they can't show 10 minutes of every deal going back and forth... it must be clipped down to a few seconds. Otherwise it would be the slowest moving TV show on Earth. I certainly agree that they edit it in ways that can be a misleading, but again, the show has to provide entertainment value to its intended audience. As for him explaining the toys, again, he's not explaining what the Thundercats toy is to the Thundercats toy designer, he's explaining what it is to the audience. I highly doubt he looks up everything, but I'm sure he looks up some of them. Just like <gasp> a real person would have to do. It's not all black and white... he needs to present a consistent show that entertains. Not everything you see on it is real or exactly how it transpired in real time... but not everything is fake. You just have to understand that you're watching a reality TV show that is designed and edited to provide entertainment first, and information second. Take it for what it is. As for Jordan and his personality, I think he's a pretty nice guy as presented on the show. He pretty much always tells them the value and warns them that he needs to make a significant markup. Sure, I look at all the things he buys (or pretends to buy, whatever) and think "why don't they just throw it on eBay with a $0.99 start price?", but not everyone wants to do that. He's enthusiastic and loves toys, but also running his business and making a living by buying them for a relatively low price and selling them for a relatively high price, like every other business on Earth. Seems ok to me. |

That's the "I don't want to sell this" price. I guess in his defense, I will say he isn't the only toy dealer to do that. Lot of guys take things from their own collection and mark them up so high they know they will not sell it. The use those items to draw attention to their booth. If somebody does pay that price, hey great.

^^^THIS all day long. I don't see the need to inflate prices or create extra drama, but I enjoy the show on the level just described.

I watched the show a couple of times and I wasn't impressed. The whole show is a joke and it is making it impossible to buy anything used for a decent price anymore. Now all of the broken Skystrikers and Hovercrafts are suddenly three times as much as they are worth just because some lady saw some jackass on travel say they were valuable despite the fact that they are broken missing pieces and yellowing.

I think people are taking the show WAY too seriously because we are invested heavily in the topic. This is a show intended to entertain a general audience. It's not a documentary intended to demonstrate the haggling process and the exact value of the collectibles present.

Rise - I respect your stance on people paying what they want for their personal collection. On that point you are 100% right.
Why as Joe collectors do we need to relax when someone is on TV getting it very wrong? Hey, I love selling to people at a higher price, but there's also a realistic price. How many kids in 1986 didn't have a Tomahawk? It's not a hard item to find MIB if you want to spend the money. My very first post was more about how a little more research one can do before making a purchase like that will go al ing way. $1500.00 should have at least got him two Tomahawks MIB. I've watched this show from the beginning, and it has not been a great source for GI Joe prices. I have three killer whales right now, 100% complete, ready to go for sale. Never in my wildest dreams would I think any one of them should go for $400.00 each. In an iPhone world, there's no reason to excessively overpay for anything, even if it's something you must have. |

Dude - This is a forum. I've dealt with Jordan for years at various shows across the country. I admit, he knows the 70's toys like no ones business. When it comes to the 80's he is very, very, off. I think this episode proved how off he was. Rewind the episode in that room full of Joe's (you find us to be envious of.) The best stuff wasn't even mentioned. He had a boxed Defiant, the third holy-grail in the box...barely even made the cut. There's been other episodes where he has no idea what Joes go for (see the killer whale episode.)
