...What would it be like?
What would it primarily be based off of? How and what would be different? Would it be targeted to adults or children? If you could vision it or have thought of this... how would it begin and end? Well? |

We've had many gi joe cartoons. I wouldn't mind seeing a live action show.
I would make it similar to Kikaida. A live action show with karate fighting. Each show would be an hour long. The joe team would only be 6 members with new "specialists" every week. You would still have faceless troops and stuff. They would still use weapons. But you would have more "villains of the week" like Ferret, Wraith, Target, Stratos, Maj. Bludd, Croc Master, RIP-it, Raptor. Destro would sometimes team up with the joes to fight Cobra. There would be vehicle battle sequences similar to the thunderbirds. Basically gi joe meets the power rangers without the predictable endings. The show would be geared towards an all ages show. Complicated storylines, but still talking to kids level. Basically, "Lost in space" level writing. Last edited by Zoltron; 03-13-2009 at 06:00 AM.. |

Personally I'd love to see G.I.Joe done as an anime. But not like cliche anime with the huge eyes and stuff. Just really good animation with a good storyline. What do you guys think of that? Defiantly a PG-13 series run. Lots of deaths & casualties. Just like the Marvel comic where a ton of Joes die by the SAW Viper. I would like to see The rebirth of a buried/not well known Joe character form, like when Dodger was the sole survivor of BF 2000.
Here is a sample: I would have a group of 7 Joes infiltrate a hidden cobra base. By the end of the episode, a Joe dies, three are injured and a ton of Cobra's are killed along with a sub Cobra character like Big Boa or Cesspool. Leave Snake Eyes and Stormshadow out of this episode. They are covered enough already. Maybe use Joe's like Outback, Hit & Run, Zap, Spearhead, Mercer, Dodger & have them lead by Beachhead. Also make use of vehicles that came out after 1987. |

I would select a core group of characters to be the regulars--Duke, Scarlet, Snake Eyes, Flint, Lady Jaye, a few others. Other Joes would show up as their operational specialties were called for. The show would be a strong PG, light PG 13. No swearing or blood, but the action a little more realistic than the old show. Characters would get injured, but death would be a rare occurence. I would serialize it, or have continuing plots that would span multiple episodes, so the stories could be more developed for older audiences. It could be mature, but without "Mature Rated' content. The villains would be more serious and menacing, instead of the campy goofups from the old shows. There would be no sexual content, but a little romance between characters would be okay. A lot like JLU, which was a great show for kids and aduts alike.

I would use blend of JLU/Clone Wars as far as story writing and animation. I love the story arc of the last couple seasons of JLU, and they knew how to deal with multiple characters in a season. I love the military feel of Clone wars, and for the most part the animation is top notch. Get rid of the cutesy skyguy and snips type shit and the show would be perfect. I would make the violence Clone Wars level with actual deaths - more PG-13, but at the same time younger kids could also get into it without being traumatized. Just say no to anything neon or anime (and I am a fan of Vampire Hunter D, Tank Police, and Trigun).

I'd hire the folks who worked on the HBO Spawn series, and have it be a late night series. The violence wouldn't be over the top though, perhaps every once and a while someone would get taken out pretty bad but I'd pepper those kind of scenes through out the series.
I'd want Larry Hama to be on board, a long with some other decent writers to have a bit of variety. The show would have more of an animated 24/The Unit kind of feel, would definitely want to give as much depth to the characters as possible, focus on what makes them tick just as much as the overall battle of Joe vs Cobra. Voice actors would be very important, I'd have to get Keith David to be Roadblock or Stalker that's for damn sure. John Rafter Lee, Denise Poirier, Steven Blum, John DiMaggio, and Phil LaMarr are just a few of the folks I'd want on board. |

I think the cartoon really dumbed down the characters. I know some of you absolutely love the cartoon but to me it was the beginning of the end. Once they put a voice to Roadblock, Wild Bill, Cobra Commander, Shipwreck and the Dreadnoks they turned them into idiotic morons. I know it was geared towards kids but I guess I'm just way old school. A military themed group of specialists brought together to rid the world of terrorism was enough for me. I liked to make my own adventures but once the cartoon hit it all went down hill. I could never get the yelling of "yo joe" and "cobra" out of my head. Wild Bill being some bumpkin and Roadblock with all his rhyming just killed it for me.
I don't know what I would do differently, it was definitely of it's time. It's so dated and so bad on so many levels it's almost not fair to pick on it. Maybe I would have made it more like a Johnny Quest kind of cartoon. |
