The Mauler is much more like the XM1 prototype:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/F..._prototype.png Especially because of the slab sided armor. The Mauler was mentioned in post #7 - but the link is no longer valid. I made a video about it. https://youtu.be/u-0AUIyOmdE

Thats a great video Novacaine31. Didn't know about the connection to the Lynx and Pulverizer.

Cobra Fang is a disproportionate mini copy Blue Thunder minus the nonfunctional radiators by the engines, the gun centered on the nose and a twin bladed rotor system.
Blue Thunder was built from the Gazelle.

Blue Thunder, I wanted one for my Cobra forces so bad but never found it as a kid. Such a cool toy.

Blue Thunder's a 3-blade main rotor, though.

That is why I wrote that the Fang had a twin bladed rotor in the first sentence.
Cobra clearly doesn't like the ground resonance problems from a three bladed system. Or Hasbro just made a twin bladed rotor for ease of production. Matchbox did the same thing when they made a diecast version of blue thunder. There are only two of them. Edit: Toy Way made a four bladed version. Blue Thunder, the helicopter: tidbits

There's a few 3rd party 3.75" scaled helicopters based on Blue thunder that gets rereleased every couple years. Not sure who the original manufacturer of the mold was but its one of those molds that gets repainted, rebranded, retooled, and resized a lot and several knockoffs of the mold exist too. Tonka probably has the best version of it and released it as Tonka Mighty Fleet Rescue Helicopter or Air Rescue Helicopter a few years back. Its common to see it as a Police, Fire Dept, Ambulance, or Army painted copter in cheap toylines. It usually comes with sounds and a winch. Some have a chin gun some don't. The Tonka one was around the size of the Dragonfly but it only seats 1 from what I can tell. All the molds have a canopy about half as long as blue thunder's should be. Rotors vary between 2 or 4.
You can find cheaply made smaller versions of the mold every so often in cheap fly by night brands as well. Last edited by sisco; 05-13-2022 at 05:03 AM.. |

There was a huge Blue Thunder toy that came out around the time as the first couple waves of Joes. It had to be assembled with a screwdriver. I think it had a flimsy plastic canopy. It could hold Joe's but I don't think it had seats or anything like that.

The 1983 model by Multi Toys Corp (?) was pretty cool. Well scaled for Joes, but as Lifeline 71 says, the interior of the cockpit was really bare-bones. Here are some photos I found online for anyone interested.
