I don't know if it's been mentioned, but I just saw this picture (link below) and couldn't help but wonder if maybe the Pulverizer might have been somewhat based off a real tank.

I think Rolling thunder is actually inspired by the HEMTT type truck, then the designer added all the weapons and components on top of it.

That first one reminds me of the Warthog. That is really cool about the RT, that thing does resemble it.
