US Army Hawk anti-aircraft missle Oh, and the X-19 was based on concept art of the F-19, and the mongram model, which was also featured in Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising as "the Frisbee" Its funny in that the concept art F-19 was more similar to 2nd Generation stealth aircraft, than the F-117 which was designed in the 1970s. I bought a small pack of plastic jet fighter planes when I was a wee lad. There were a few F-19A jets in there. Thank you for posting this. I never knew it was based in any reality, concept or otherwise. Always had fun with that one.

Wow I didn't even think it existed. I always questioned the fact that it was part of the WHALE or if the designers were just lazy. Though as if they needed to fill some kind of design void in a hurry! I know I can't be the only one who ever wondered this.

Wow that is crazy cool! I would of thought the Cobra Imp had a better chance of being "real" before the old motorcycle from the WHALE. Holy crap that thing is just awesome. Thanks for posting that Xerofall!

I wasn't even aware there had been plans for a POC X-19 - what a shame. :( On the plus side, maybe they'll release it down the line as part of the 50th.
There are two Joe Vs Cobra era vehicles that I think have some pretty obvious real world influence. The Patriot Grizzly tank seems like a an adaptation of the XM8 Ridgeway light tank prototype, and the Cobra Ringneck appears to be pretty influenced by the Brazilian EE-9 Cascavel armored car - and incidentally, in Portuguese, Cascavel translates to "Rattlesnake." |

I know this is a 2013 model, but it's interesting that they look similar...

that is pretty cool, Hasbro did a good job of updating the Ferret to keep up with todays ATVs. One thing I use to always hear about the Ferret is that it's too big, over scaled and what not for Joes. I think a lot of people just weren't around ATVs, or four wheelers as we call'em, back in the 80's.
My neighbor had a bunch, atleast three at a time and probably traded one in for a new one every year. Those early ones were as big as some compact cars. I'll never forget he had a dark blue one that I swear looked just like the Ferret, except for the exhaust and no rockets or cannons lol. |
