Fellow Tank Brothers & Sisters...
I need your advice! I collected Joe's as a kid, but lost them along the way. I started up again w/ the 25th, but I'm now caught up with modern figs... and subsequently bored, like many others. I've been flirting with the idea of collecting loose ARAH... and I'm so very close to diving in... BUT... I have no clue where to begin!! The prospect is slightly overwhelming, so any advice will do. A solid list of figs and vehicles would help immensely. Also, any advice on what NOT to go after, or fall for, would be appreciated. I come to you for your thoughts, Tankheads. Collect the Vintage guys you want,or didnt get as a kid. This is what i been doing for now going on 24 years just wish my collection reflected it lol. I would start of with 1982 and just slowly work up and get the joes you want till your satisfied.

Yo Joe! | The 3 3/4" G.I. Joe Collector's Site — With Daily G.I. Joe News and Discussions
Has figures/vehicles released by year in their archive. Have pictures of accessories, pieces, etc.. Great resource. Just go thru and pic the ones you want. EBay is the best place to get stuff. I've bought from CTG Links News and Archive (one of the site sponsors) before. They're good to deal with.

Now the thing to look out for is, some people don't count the filecards as part of the figure being "complete". CTG doesn't have filecards, most EBay says "complete" meaning there's no missing accessories but they may or may not include the filecards.
I'm not a stickler for the filecards, nice to have but I don't consider the figure incomplete without it. YoJoe is also good because it'll tell you all the little pieces, so when an auction says "complete" you can check to make sure it's the original accessories and all the pieces are there.

good stuff, guys. i have a few links bookmarked that will definitely help my endeavor.
my main concern is what/who to avoid while on the hunt. i've only collected MOC up to this point, so i'm green when it comes to loose. for example, what's an average price for a vintage loose in good condition? i'm assuming that a complete loose fig should cost a little more?? do you guys scoop up a fig regardless if its complete and then hunt for the missing accessories? forgive me if i sound like a rookie. admittedly, with loose figs, i am. |

I am filling in my gaps of loose figure collection between 1982-1994. I try to find them complete w/all weapons and accessories but I just came across 19 loose/INcomplete figures from 1987 series on yojoe that someone sold to me for $3 each including shipping. I couldn't pass up the deal. They were in good condition which is ok for me. I can hunt for the small accessories at a later time. I just received them in the mail today at my office and they are just as described: good condition, semi-tight but nothing a little work can't take care of. That is my advice for the day...good luck and happy hunting!

It all depends on the figure. Night Force guys, complete, for for $20 and up. I picked up Outback (non-Night Force), complete, for $9 the other day and that's the cheapest seen him. I got an Iceberg for $2.50. Mainframe cost me $4.50 and Mercer was $6.00.
Figures range from 1.00 to 100.00. All depends on how much you're willing to go. I will not buy non-complete figures. It's too hard to find the accessories for a good price because you'll pay way more buying 'em piece meal. Vehicles, especially the larger ones, you might have no choice but to go piecemeal. The bad part about getting loose is you really won't know the tightness of the joints until you get it in hand. But the description will usually let you know. I've only gotten 2 "bad" ones out of the 30 vintage I've bought since September. And the bad was a loose O-Ring on Recoil and faded paint on Tiger Force Bazooka. But those figures were only $5 or so each (including shipping). Also try to buy multiple figures from the same person at a time, so can combine shipping. I just got 4 figures where the shipping was going to be 3 bucks each, but because it was combined they were only 5 bucks to ship all 4 total.

collecting vintage is a lot of fun but gets very expensive fast. my best advice to you is to be patient when looking for what you want on ebay. you will be looking for a certain figure and watch him change in price so dramatically, alweys make sure that the figure has tight joints, good paint and has no cracks in the elbow rivets or anywhere else for that matter. alweys read the description carefully, and alweys make sure the figure is 100% complete, if you think its missing something, check yojoe's archive to double check if your uncertain. these are all pretty basic rules but just thought id throw them out there.
ive been collecting vintage for a few yrs now and its alot of fun to get figures you never had as a kid. great thing about vintage is they hold alot more nostolgia for me anyway and bring back some great memories. and in my opinion they are alot more durable then modern figs. good luck to you though.
