^This.
the biker gang narrative is just too small these days, or at least much too small for major characters like the Dreadnoks to be involved in. Not that a biker gang wouldn't be useful fodder towards a campaign of erroding civilization, it's just too common a type of thuggery to devote main characters to. Even a Sons of Anarchy reimagining would be far too small in scope. Wheras i've always thought that [/q]Extensive Enterprises[/i] provides much of the funding and legitimate face to Cobra -with all the political connections, technologies, public relations, and clandestined corruption, Zartan and the Dreadnoks represent the flip-side of Cobra that delves into the darker places of the world of crime and social unrest. The purpose of the Dreadnoks is partially for income, but mostly it's for connections and control over much of the world's major crime syndicates. Guys like Buzzer, Gnawgahide, Torch are no less than global arch-crime bosses and they all report to Zartan. Each has a different cartel of specialty (and area): suggestions? Buzzer - Grand theft (USA and Canada) Gnawgahyde - Poaching and native uprisings (Africa) Monkeywrench - Arms dealing (former USSR) Ripper - Drugs (Mexico/latin America) Road Pig - Racketeering/Corruption/extortion/bribery (Europe) Thrasher - Human Trafficing(east Asia) Torch - Antiquities (Australia/pacific Rim) Zandar - Espionage (Middle East) Zarana - Assasination (western Asia/balkans) Zanzibar - Piracy (Worldwide/south America) The figures would be far more polished and professional. Each would be a trained killer, assassin, and infultrator. I like the bike angle for a lot of them, but their clothing would have to reflect their wealth, power, and personality. These are scary dudes. "Scary dudes" is right. But they're also colorful psychologically bizarre characters. I'm imagining Quentin Tarantino could make a great movie based just around the Dreadnoks origin story. I can just see a movie opening sequence where a couple of big heavy Dreadnoks (Buzzer, Ripper, and Torch) walk into a scummy roadside dive bar. Everyone inside turns to see them walk in, and kind of sizes them up. Buzzer goes up to the bar to order a drink and the bartender does a doubletake; "You want a what?" And then when the barman gives him a funny look and laughs again, the dreadnoks start smashing the place up and killing people. Just as the scene could get more chaotic, the Road Pig smashes down the door and drives into the bar on a motorbike, and Torch sets fire to the place as they leave. ---- Giving each Dreadnok a dedicated specialty is a good concept. I don't know if I think of all these guys as natural leaders, but I like the idea of a organized crime gang with members from all different backgrounds and experiences. Almost like a bunch of psycho defense contractor types combined with heavy crimnials. So many of the Cobra characters are leaders or lieutents, I like the idea of a bunch of "specialized rank and file soldier" types, who aren't just nameless Vipers. |
