Hi, you guys! So I've never actually been on the site myself (though I did help my dad take a lot of pictures of his collection for the site back in the day) other than when I made my account, but now I really need you guys' help.
I'm doing a paper for my Cold War history class on the Oktober Guard, and I was wondering if any of you guys could point me in the direction of some reliable information and/or websites concerning them. Also, I apologize in advance if I stuck this in the wrong forum! Thanks! |

Oktober Guard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Most of the info there is good, and more importantly can point you to the original sources (particularly the original Marvel Comics issues that feature them), as well as additional sites for information. The Marvel comics + various filecards (which can be found on homepage | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond!) are the best sources for info on the Guard, and the Marvel comics also have the benefit of presenting the Guard at various stages of the final years of the Cold War (transitioning from "not-always-friendly rivals" to "allies" for the Joe team in the process). Anything beyond that is probably unnecessary if you're focusing on the Cold War era. |

Welcome to the 'tank! Not sure what kind of info you need, but one thing I'll tell you is that the Oktober Guard make only brief appearances in the regular comic, but they appear quite frequently in the Special Missions series.

lol, what? But there is a real GI Joe, right? I mean, Retaliation was like a documentary/re-enactment... true?
Back to the question at hand, someone wrote a good article about the OGs in the comics and how it kind of related to the Cold War. Can't recall exactly where, but some Googling should find it. |

Good students will not use wikipedia as a reference though.
They are introduced in Marvel ARAH #6 Appear in 7, 92, 101, 102, 103, 105, 146, 147, 148 Yearbook 2, 4 Special Missions 2, 4, 18, 20, 26 If you are looking for a first person interview, you could PM with questions. I grew up during the Cold War and remember the wall coming down, playing Army where the enemy were the Soviet Union. I had maps of the USSR that we made battle plans on, etc... |
