the only person i've ever persistantly called anything other than their own name or a nickname derived there from, was a supervisor at work who was a complete pillock and i called her 'Muppet'. the boss told me off, because she was convinced she would wind up calling the super Muppet to her face.

I haven't done any Joe names but I sometimes refer to friends who have 2 syllable names as if they were He-Man characters. IE; my friend Andrew becomes An-Drew. Sometimes if they are acting a certain way or doing something of note I'll sing the He-Man theme song and replace "Masters" with whatever it is they are doing. So it would be something liiiike... An-Drew! And the Toilet Cloggers of the Universe!

i've got nick-names for nearly everyone of my work colleagues[some they know, some they dont!..ha,ha].the range from mr interesting[this guys as dull as dishwater!] then we have pup the dog bollock[this guys knee-high to a grasshopper, but thinks he's dog the bounty-hunter but he can barely read[fuck knows how management missed this!] then we have mr potato head[no explanation needed!] and then the last two[although they dont know it ,are the osama twins[i'll let you work that one out, dont want to spell it out at the risk of offending anyone].if i had my way i'd fire this pair of radical bastards always leaving pamphlets of their propaganda around the office[funny thing is,more the one person has complained to management ,and yet management says they cant do anything until they catch them in the act!

We called a guy at work/training years ago Muppet (not to his face), because he, well, somehow looked like a Muppet. Oh, and he was a jerk, too. Back at university, we had a bunch of codenames... Offhand the only one I can remember was "Lunchessa", because one of my friends had this crush on a girl he only saw at lunch, so she was the goddess of lunch, etc. Sounds cheesy, I know, but it was actually funny because of the banality of the way we went about it. We had some better ones for people we didn't know, but would always see... I'd have to think to remember them all though.

i wouldn't say it was that common, no. it's mostly because at the tiem i was playing Modern Warfare 2 and a couple of times Soap calls bad guys 'muppets' and a guy on another forum i was on liked to use it as an insult too.
