I understand both arguments but disagree with the "elitist" moniker that is placed on collectors who choose not to share the wealth that they've accumulated. I have a buddy who has the unreleased Battle Rangers stuff...yet doesn't post on every board saying OOH, LOOK WHAT I HAVE NEWBS! GEEWUN FOR LIFE!
To each their own. I personally think it's better to keep uber rare items under wraps...because if not you end up with uber rare bootlegs like polish variants and whatnot. |

Many "high-end" collectors feel a need to insulate themselves to some degree from the community at large. They don't post on message boards, they don't share pictures of their collections, and they don't participate in the cons
I have personally been called names, told that I'm an idiot, and generally talked down to by noobs on boards like this one simply because I don't mind spending $500+ on a rare Joe figure....and who wants to put up with that? Especially from someone whose idea of a "cool collection" is having a complete wave 13 from the 25th line and who has no problem dropping $50 on a clear Wraith when you can still find them in stores. |

I heard a lot about Mike Fountain and Ted Issacs and seen some of the rare international joes which they had. But it seems they have disappeared without a trace the past few years. Does anyone know where are they? They have such stuff that most of us may not have seen before.
I really wonder what happened to Ted's foreign joes collection. He had one of the coolest collections back then... |

I know Ted Issacs had many health issues in the past - wonder if they caught up with him?

Mike Fountain was a highly unethical obsessive-compulsive alcoholic who eventually left the GI JOE collecting scene as far as I know, and sold most if not all of his collection. A few pieces that he had ended up in my hands, and I believe others have told me that they ended up with others. I don't know if he still has a foreign collection, but I would doubt it considering some of the rare stuff that was let go.
Ted Isaacs has not been heard from in a long time. I know he sold off parts of his collection too, as I got a few items back in the early 00's including a Funskool Sgt. Slaughter which I eventually sold to another collector last year. Steve is right, Ted was very ill and in a wheelchair the last time I saw him at a Joe con maybe around 2003/2004. I would suggest asking either Brian Mulholland or Dave Lane about him if you see either at the next Joe Con, as they were all from California and knew him I think. |

BTW thanks a bunch for selling me some Anti-Venom pre-prod figures a while back!

LOL. The guy with the highest bids wins on eBay, I have no problem with that, so in that respect it is a battlefield but as far as my "unethical" comment I was referring to some other things the guy did/said.

Well, it's just straight up jealously that explains those people, but that jealously can also be fanned by collectors who go out of their way to peacock their collection. Certainly not suggesting or implying that you ever did that of course - and I have generally exercised caution discussing my own collection on boards in an effort to avoid fanning those feelings as well. |

Last heard from Fountain yesterday that he isnt collecting gi joes anymore, that is old news, but he actually did reply me, which is quite amazing, considering the fact that he doesnt reply anyone even those that know him well, in quite a long time....
