I was pretty into GvC/ST for a while... the T-crotches sucked but I generally liked the figures. The comics I didn't read until recently, and I don't have any huge complaints.

I stuck with with Joe through out and agree that in the retrospect of VvV and Spytroops there's nothing the movie could do thats worse.

I endured both. I wasn't big on "new sculpt", and that actually made me walk away from the toys for a while. I actually enjoyed Devil's Due, despite the problems you accurately laid out.
So having been through both, no, I am not less critical of the movie or IDW reboot. Frankly, I thought Devil's Due stayed true to what ARAH was.

I started in 1982. I never stopped. I endured Eco-Warriors, Mega Marines, Lunartixx, Sgt. Savage, Extreme, 15th anniversary figs, new sculpt and every damned Joe thing under the sun. I have read all of the comics from Marvel to Dark Horse to DDP to now IDW. Even the Blackthorne 3-D. I read G.I. Joe magazine, watched DIC cartoons, Extreme cartoons and whether I have loved or hated it, I have purchased it all. I even army-built IRON Stormtroopers.
Joe has certainly had it's ups and downs. DIC was a low point, but at least there were cartoons. DDP was a low point, but at least there were comics. New sculpt, not to be confused with 25th era, was an interesting time. I was very glad to see the toys out in force again. The figures and vehicles were hit or miss, and it was a TERRIBLE time to be an army builder, as every figure that wasn't included in a multi-pack or vehicle was in a two-pack. Some of the gimmicks were awesome. Some were not. I liked the NAC, hated the Smokescreen. I am thrilled with the new figures and vehicles. I'm annoyed that a single figure costs as much as a two-pack did just four years ago, but I haven't given up the ghost. I am very happy to see GI Joe grow and evolve while paying tribute to their roots. The movie looks like a mix of great and crummy toys with some great and crummy costumes. It's the ebb and flow of Joe. It's generally accepted that the heyday was 1985. I would argue that the great stuff carried into 1989. After 1990, the line started to go into dramatic divergence. Chromed vehicles and neon characters with monsters were kind of out there, but as long as they didn't travel into the realm of Ninja Turtles, I was okay with it. GI Joe is in the best place it's been in about 20 years as far as the toys are concerned. It's in the best place it's been in 15 years as far as comics are concerned and, as goofy as Darth Viper (Cobra Commander)'s movie mask looks, at least he not a freaking gray pre-historic 12-eyed lizard mutant. What else is there to say? It'll never be 1985 again. We came as close as we're likely to with the 25th line. Change is the only constant. Some things will suck and some will rock. Cherry-pick what you like, and if something offends you, like Darth Viper, don't be afraid to speak long and loudly about it. Ranting is kind of annoying, but no more so than the jerks who tell you they don't want to hear your opinion.

I like the design of Destro(Alexander disguised) in the DD books. I like Destro's new look toward the end of the DDP run. I was glad they integrated Mercer in the comic FINALLY.
