I'm heading up to NYC this saturday for a bit of Joe hunting. Can anybody offer any advice for that area? Thanks in advance.

In the city it's mailnly Toys R Us Times Square, Toy Tokyo, Jim Hanley's universe and forbidden planet.
But one warning, while the prices at TRU is slightly more then your average TRU, the rest are more on the expensive side. |

NYC is a not great place for toy shopping. One of the largest concentrations of young folk with disposable incomes and hipster-esque attitudes in the country and there's, like, three toy stores. The competition is just ferocious-- just go to TRU Times Square as it opens one morning and watch people throw away their dignity and make a mad dash to the second floor. The one time I was there at an opening some dude literally pushed aside two young kids to squeeze in the entrance first and book to whatever aisle.
Toy hunting in NYC is all about lots of luck, lots and lots of patience, checking unusual spots like drug stores and comic shops, and ultimately ordering 90% off of BBTS. |
