I'd buy into a FLAGG playset Kit, that was maybe like an amphibious assault ship. It could hold vehicles inside and have command tower, and a deck for skyhawk and shark sized vehicles. Do one in grey platic and one in black for cobra and cobras could hold flight pods fengs, and firebats. I have ideas in my head I think if we do it resaonable it is possible.

I was thinking about this today. I've seen people getting that huge blown out building playset at Big Lots for $35. It's HUGE (at least by modern playset standards) and it comes with removable parts, and lots of detail, even some figures (but they're crap) anyway, point is. If some off brand company can make enough of these to still have some kind of profit at the $35 price point, then I think Hasbro might be misleading you a little bit about just how tight those margins really are.

I absolutely guarantee that if Mattel who is one of the greediest, most over-priced toy makers in the world, can make Castle Greyskull an internet exclusive item for $250, that means they are probably manufacturing it for less than $75 a unit. If Hasbro wanted to make the USS Flagg right now, for $200 in retail, if someone was willing to carry it, they could and it would still be profitable to them. Just nowhere near the margin they want it to be.
Are Joe fans going to commit a couple hundred bucks to the PROMISE of Hasbro getting a Flagg out in 10-12 months? You still have many thousands who still refuse a "slightly above" retail preorder on figures they deem "essential". (And the retailer thing is largely a dead end. No online retailer has the pull to get product made, and big name physical retailers don't have enough faith in the brand for a $100 product, much less the 250+ a reasonably decent Flagg would run) Quote:
For a playset to fit "our" general needs as collectors, even a noname product is going to cost well above $200

I too, contributed to the marauders kickstarter, and I'm not really interested in the finished product. The incentives are what got me to contribute. I'm glad I took part and that it succeeded. Like the OP said, think big!!! I would want hasbro to tackle one of the 3 Joe grails. I'd want a new terrordrome, defiant, or Flagg. It seems like $250.00 is the new ceiling for something like castle greyskull or a big millennium falcon. If hasbro said, "pay for the tooling costs, and we'll build it", I'd be all in. They could do incentives, with straight reissues of some of their more popular and hard to find toys. If they made renegades storm shadow, 25th alpine, or cancelled desert scorpion as incentives, they'd get a lot of people to contribute. I'd like to see them reissue the ROC steel crusher as an incentive.

Not surprised. My animation hero Ralph Bakshi just got himself 174,000 dollars for his latest film on kickstarter too.

If Veronica Mars can pull it off, GI Joe's fanbase certainly can.

If done right, it'd pay for itself tenfold! Hello Hasbro?? Your majority fanbase is now in their thirty's and have disposable income to spend. How long will it take until you listen?
