Something I'll be part of this month:
Hey GI Joe Fans!!! We are pleased to announce our Art of GI Joe event!!! This event will be on Saturday March 23rd, 2013 and will take place from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at our store location inside The Collector’s Marketplace at 1945 E. Indian School Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85016. This will be an art exhibit and sale of pieces related to, inspired by and even produced via the GI Joe toy lines, comic books, cartoons, films and more. We will have a VERY special guest: Paramount Pictures’ GI Joe: Retaliation and the Cobra Special Forces promotional team! Come on out and score promotional items, advance screening tickets and other possible goodies whilst celebrating the upcoming release of the next GI Joe film! There are already several artists and exhibitors signed up to participate and more are in the works! Confirmed thus far: Photographer Danny Nuemann of Action Figure Insider fame and his “GI Joes on Location” series will be on exhibit and for sale. These are incredibly witty and entertaining shots of vintage 1980s 3 3/4” GI Joe toys in various comedic and/or meaningful poses and locations. See examples to the right. Danny himself will be on site for signings and to present and discuss incredible work. (Dialtone and Lifeline/Doc samples on right). Author Dan Klingensmith is working on a book on the artwork and design behind the Real American Hero 3 3/4″ line of the 80s and 90s. As he has worked on the research for this project over the years, he has collected an amazing assortment of actual Hasbro production art and conceptual designs. He will be showcasing some of these pieces for the public and will be on hand to explain and tell some very interesting stories behind them. These are priceless one of a kind pieces and will not be for sale. We would appreciate no photography of them. (Original 1987 Nemesis Enforcer sculpt sheet example on right). Scribe and poet Vocab Malone will present a reading of his original poem, “So I Married an Aristocrat…” straight from the quill of Destro! Local artists Ellison Keomaka,Matthew Molleur and James Hiralez will also have originals and prints on display and for sale! Ellison Keomaka is a renowned professional local artist. His impressive portfolio includes his apparel line, Large Scale and hot rod design, as well as providing apparel and designs for nationally recognized celebrities. Ellison will not be present but his artwork will be on display and his prints for sale. Matthew Molleur (Destro sample on right) is a local comic artist with a distinct Pop Art style, and has self published his own comic book series! Matthew will be on sight to sign prints ands discuss his artwork. James Hiralez is a founding member of the Oddity Commodity Art Collective which quickly grew into a stable of characters and concepts that is presented through various mediums including clothing, sketch art, fine art, trading cards and comic books. James will be on site to sign prints and discuss his artwork. Visit GI Joe Vs Transformers Facebook for current news and event additions! GI Joe is a registered trademark of Hasbro Inc.
