How many Collectors are in the Armed Forces?
What Branch? How Long Have You Been in the Armed Forces? Is this why you are a Collector or is there any other reason? I'm asking this question at the forums i check out all the time so no need to answer twice. Last edited by bmc; 01-01-2008 at 11:16 AM.. |

Air Force, 4 years active, now Reserves going on 14 years total now.
Not collecting because of being in the AF, just the memories as a kid with these figures. |

Active duty U.S. Air Force for nearly 13 years so far. I collect vintage toys because of nostalgic reasons and not because I'm a member of the armed forces.

BMC is that Boatswain's Mate Chief?
Currently active duty in the navy as an IT2. in 24 days i will have been in for 8 years. possibly doing 20 if my next command treats me better than my current one here in japan. (dont know how it could get worse) its not the reason im a collector. i never stopped. if anything it was the other way around. joes might have contributed to why i enlisted. maybe. also being 20 and going nowhere fast had something to do with it.

I am the first in four generations not to be, and not from a lack of trying. (My Knees kept me out)
My Great Grandfather was US Army WWI My Grandfather was US Army WWII (Survived the Battle of the Bulge) My Dad was US Airforce Vietnam (Pararescue, later Commando Work for the CIA). I tried to join right after the first Gulf War when I was old enough, but a torn up knee kept me out, the second one after that didn't help my case.

i had a knee problem in boot. patella femiral syndrome. kneecap gets out of wack and wears a groove through the cartilage and grinds bone to bone. bending my knees at all felt like injecting lava into the joints. dont even mention walking/marching. not fun.
went to the doc. he said "well i can put you on light limited duty (LLD) and see if you get better, course then you wouldnt graduate on time... -OR- i could put you fit for full duty (FFD), give you some motrin for the pain, and you can tuff it out. if you do this and it gets worse, come back RIGHT AWAY and we'll get you LLD. also you need to do some excersizes to strengthen your muscles that keep the kneecaps in place... what'll it be?" i took choice #2. hurt like hell but here i am, 8 years later and my knees are fine.

I was 6 years in (Army). I was the reboot in my family. All of my mom's Uncles and her brother were in WWII, Korea or Vietnam. My dad's side never served mainly due to health issues. I was basically born and bred to be a soldier and it was an enriching experience. If any of you have read Issue #155 of the marvel comic run of G.I Joe, Snake-Eyes' letter to Wade Collins' son pretty much sums up how I feel about it. Absolutely beautiful bit of script by Larry Hama and I'm not ashamed to say it brought a tear to my eye.
