Ya I understand that happens but it was kinda messed up and not only that those guy are really nice in person and it was awesome working with them.. Not only that I have to defend them cause I directed one of there top music videos and they are a kick ass group... I can understand someone saying they dont like there music but the way it was put i felt was out of line.. I know you wouldn't like someone saying that about your band.
We are all adults here, and the reality is its a harsh reality. Just because you directed a video, and felt they are great guys, that holds no real bearing on how others will view or judge their talent, based upon the content they have put out. Just because you hold a moderator position here and personal feelings with said band, that should not impose on the general populace expressing their opinion. The only thing I could remotely understand was if there is a language issue here as far as profanity goes if its against forum rules, fine then, but he would still have a general right I would think to express he feels they are a joke regardless, as would anyone else on anything in general. Taking this kinda stance makes it come off as playing favorites, which sure, every one does at some point in forums, esp with fav movies, books, bands. But I mean, in your position as a moderator, its not likely you're going to monitor every other thread taking the same stance for every other band out there when they get bashed all to hell for their talent or lack there of,nor would you care to. So when you jumped him specifically over it expressing also you rpersonal stake in the matter, it comes off just as minor mod abuse, even if you did not intend it to be that. Seriously, I mean, if you said nothing at all, Im quite sure you would see alot more people state the same thing he did if this thread continues, and probably even worse at some point. But now you have come off as trying to control public opinion/expression via a mildly threatening manner, and are not likely to see many honest opinions on this thread due to that and no one wanting to hurt your feelings, or even in some lightly paranoid cases risk being banned for bad mouthing a band you have a personal connection with. I got to tell you, mod fear runs rampant among the timid and you don't want that hanging over you. It does not mean that's exactly what you meant to do, but that's the kinda outcome that happens when moderators do what you did, seemingly taking it semi-personally and jumping on him for it. To even take this kinda stance cut and dry, it would mean no one could express anything negative about any band, song, movie, book, toy, game, ect, and that's exactly why it shouldn't be taken at all. Just my 2 cents on it based upon observed typical forum behavior. As far as the band goes, like I said, only heard that once song, and viewed this one video, and its not likely I will seek out more of their work. Also, sorry for this god awful long post. :( |

Just because they used the song in the trailer doesn't necessarily mean anything like that will be in the movie (it happens all of the time in Hollywood). And btw, I don't really care much for Hollywood Undead at all (I have only heard one song of theirs and it was forgettable).

I could see how this would upset you since you have something personal in it, but in the same respect, I have to agree with what the guy said just from viewing that video and hearing that song only, as well as how he put it being just fine in my eyes. Its his opinion, and hes right, you put your act out there, or you're art, ect, you have to just be able to handle all types of criticism or fandom based remarks. I love Blondie, Ministry, NIN, KMFDM, The Cure, ect, and I couldn't begin to recite all the negative things said to me about these bands over the years when I say I like them. I just don't take it personally, as to me its to each their own. I don't mind a heated debate, stating why I like them, but I have no qualms about others being able to say they dont, nor why they dont.

As far as the band goes, like I said, only heard that once song, and viewed this one video, and its not likely I will seek out more of their work. Also, sorry for this god awful long post. :( wow... I wasnt saying that he couldnt say that he didnt like them or not I was just saying it was way to harsh saying that the band was a f joke.. I thought that was a little harsh and Kinda messed up.. I didnt send him a pm or a warning. It didnt deserve that, it was just my feeling on the madder.. There are bands that I dont like but you wont see me talk trash on them in a forum dedicated to gi joe, even though there beats were in the trailer. ;) He is right to feel the way he wants, I just asked him to refrain from being so harsh.. It wasnt an order or anything like that.. Infact I like 80's rock Im not into alot of the newer music out there but at the same time I keep an open mind and the music for me wont make me hate a trailer. I think the trailer rocked and I am excited about the movie being a reality. anyways I think somtimes people on these forums complain just to complain and as a mod its a catch 22 cause I have to becarfull on how I respond but at the same time im on these forums for the same reason as everyone else.. Im a fan of gijoe and i want the movie to be great. |

I like HU, in fact I was the first to announce the fact they were in the trailer, they are far from ICP, I can see why people wouldn't like them especially since their music really speaks to innercity kids and the Hollywood scene, but hey they're really popular with the kids and got their whole fan base via myspace and word of mouth(which is millions), and also because of the SB ad people have been all over their page mentioning it so even non joe fans will at least check out the trailer for their like 12-17secs of the band they like and might think hey this might be a good movie, so really it's a plus because it could bring more people out that normally wouldn't just because they heard a band they like in a trailer and then the trailer pulled them in to wanting to actually see the film

Thats what I consider harsh. Again, to each their own, every one has a right to state their opinion of a band I feel like, harsh or not, unless its specifically against the forums rules I would think. And you're right, it is a catch 22, as a mod all you can really do is stay as neutral as possible, and uphold the forum rules. Don't let personal feelings cause you to get yourself inserted into said conversations in a defensive manner because, like I said, it can be taken wrong with you being a mod. The worst would be to get into such matters due to personal issues and have that thrown back at you, especially by condescending assholes later down the road or by site owners who decided they didn't like the way you did your job after a bunch of forum members stopped complaining about other things and started specifically complaining about you, nit picking everything you did or did not do. I think people are becoming more critical of music, gaming, and movies in general in this day and age too, because money is harder to come by right now, and no one wants to spend good hard earned cash on what they feel is sub par work anymore, so people are going to be even more likely now to be vocal if they feel something sucks ass and express it in as brutally honest a way as possible. Is this what the young people are listening to these days? To me these young men sound quit distasteful. I would not group them with the Insane Clown Posse. ICP is a precision machine built to take the money of stupid people, and they do it quite well.
One of my favorite bands did this song and I think it sounds a lot better than Hollywood Undead, at least A.C. sound terrible on purpose.

Hollywood Undead are stupid. And are a joke. I don't like the band. Sorry to offend them. But it's my opinion.
I also don't think Hollywood Undead give a crap about what is said on this forum- that's just my opinion too. Also, this is my opinion, seems like General Hawk59 is name dropping just a little bit. Funny, how he started out his moderation post by saying he directed their video, but he also repeatedly cannot use the correct form of "their." That bothers me, but that's just my opinion, and makes me consider the source. A 30 year old man who's moderating a web forum should know which form of a word to use- again my opinion. And who's saying it's a top rated video- youtube? And I want to see this "video General Hawk59" directed. Any links to the said video? If so, it would be much appreciated to see your work. Many thanks. |

Pineapple Express had the song "Paper Planes" by M.I.A. (which I love) in the trailer, but wasn't in the movie, so don't worry. It's just 30 seconds of action with a fast loud song meant to pump you up, That's all. Trailers always pick songs that flow with the trailer, doesn't mean it's in the movie.
