Julia Roberts was like a freshman in high school in 1984, and Tom Cruise hadn't even discovered the secret alien conspiracy that explains life on Earth yet.
But I get what you are saying about unknowns, although I don't agree with it.

People always pick the most "popular" actors when they do these fantasy castings, and frankly that is the wrong approach I would have much rather seen "talented" unknown actors over popular ones ...agree to disagree...

Haven't had much time to think more about this yet. I posted the question before going to sleep last night, and it's 4:33 am now on a Saturday and I have to go to the shop and do some work (at least I'm getting paid time and a half).
Let's say, for the sake of argument, we choose actors and actresses we want, and not stars that would make it a big blockbuster. So far jic2915's picks are looking good, but don't forget some of the characters from the comic like Kwinn, General Flagg, Scarface, Dr. Venom, Dr. Burkhart and General Austin. The Baroness was there from the start, even though her character didn't get made until '84. I thought Lee Majors was a good choice, but maybe as General Flagg instead of Hawk. Charlton Heston could be General Austin. And looking at Harrison Ford's small role in Apocalypse Now, he might have made a good Colonel Hawk, but I feel as if there might be a better, less obvious choice. Still, lots of interesting speculating to be done. Once I get back from work...

I love this question because my stepbrother and I used to talk about this while trying to go to sleep circa '84 '85 and on. Unfortunately, I cannot remember who we used to name. Such is it I guess. lol!
