Duke's refusal to take an officer's commission stops making sense once he's on the Joe team, anyhow. Being an officer in G.I. Joe doesn't get you "trapped behind a desk" or "taken away from the men" which is undoubtedly what Duke so feared from the prospect of an officer's commission. In the grand scheme if things it isn't like Senior NCOs don't do nearly as much or more "pencil pushing" than officers, either. Last edited by Jmacq1; 01-18-2013 at 06:28 PM.. |

Like a pathetic nerd, I have my command structure and squads typed up in Word. But the gist of it is: 1. Hawk, 2. Duke, 3. Flint, 4. Beachhead, 5. Stalker and Scarlett. Hawk has discretion to appoint command positions as he wishes within the Joe team, but everyone else is ranked by their highest known grade in the toys or comics. In my Joe universe, the team is sort of a Dirty Dozen-like dumping ground for highly skilled but eccentric soldiers, and Hawk has been given an unusual amount of autonomy by the President to run things as he sees fit.

For me, the Joe team is now a PMC, often employed against US foreign policy wishes. Hawk is involved, but he retired and is the principal investor. Field command depends on what team is deployed, where, and for what reason. Flint and Duke mostly run the show, with Scarlett and Lady Jaye acting as the mission schedulers and planners.
In one fanfic I'm working on, Shipwreck is running a security team in South Africa. |

Sure, but it's our Joe-verse, so we can do whatever we want. Plus two "official" interpretations of Joe have made Duke either an officer (RoC/movie-Verse) or officer equivalent (DDP Comics). Maybe IDW too? Haven't read those to see. Either way, there's precedent.
