I wanted to thank you tankers again for the feedback you gave me when i posted the thread about the "mint on sealed bubble serpentor yellow neck that AFA opened up and graded as a loose figure". Your supporting responses were truly appreciated. I wrote to AFA and below is their response. Just wanted to see what everyone thought as well as the numerous tankers who wanted me to update them. Obviously i wish they could find another yellow neck serpentor mint on bubble and grade it sealed. But i doubt that they can find one. They wrote:
Thank you for your patience. After reviewing the original submission form, it appears that the item was submitted under the incorrect Tier. It was submitted as a carded Standard figure, but should have been submitted under the Custom 1 Tier. Therefore, when this was noticed, the person creating the invoice listed it as a loose figure - but this was an error and should have been confirmed before going forward. We deeply regret that the issue was not investigated further, as we realize after reading your letter that this item was very special to you. While we also realize that we cannot fully rectify the situation, we wish to suggest the following: 1) We can purchase the item from you for the insured value of $100 listed on your submission form and refund all grading, shipping fees, etc on your submission form. 2) We can search for a replacement of the sealed item for you. Again, we sincerely apologize for the error, and we look forward to reaching a resolution that is acceptable to you.

Well...I'm just sorry for what has happened to your hold grail item. Is there any point for them to even try to search for one?

Well, the $100 is better than nothing I suppose, but doesn't even come close to rectifying the situation, and on top of that they would then want to keep your mint graded yellow neck Serpentor, which they will then turn around and sell on ebay for considerably more than $100, guaranteed.
Additionally, I don't know if you showed them pictures of your Serpentor collection, but clearly being an authority on the figure I think you know far better than they would, that there is simply no way they are going to locate a replacement...it's just not gonna happen. Ultimately, I would expect the full refund for the grading process, but I wouldn't sell them your figure for $100, because you know you would likely get a lot more than that if you just sold it yourself.

Well don't you still have another yellow neck MISB Serpentor? At least you still have a MISB one. Also, at least they admitted their fault.
Just keep it and ask them to refund you the grading cost and keep the item, and tell them to search for a replacement (which is practically almost impossible). |

I think they should refund it all, and then let you keep your figure. By no means should they profit in any way from this mistake, yet that appears to be their intention.

I would request that they first try to find the exact Serpentor and then go from there.

This all very interesting. I seriously doubt that I would ever use their services. I really hope things work out for you.
