Christmas, 1982. My birthday is on the 17th, so just a week before, my aunt bought me my first GI Joe toy, Breaker. Then Christmas Day my family went to her house and she had gotten me a Christmas present as well. I opened it up to discover the VAMP!!! Ever the stereotypical male, I started to put it together without directions. I ended up assembling it without the water can holder being put in properly, so I iist hung it off the tow hook, and mine didn't come with the mount for the gun, so I just propped it up on the back. Many, many years later, I was given back some of my old toys, and among them was the vamp. I was brave enough to disassemble it and put the can holder in properly, and I got the gun mount off of ebay. I have it on display in my Joe room to this day.

After reading all these posts, being an adult sucks! I miss the golden age of Joe and all the neighborhood kids gettign together, or just 1-2 of your best friends. I dont care what they say the 80's were awesome.
My Christmas story is conflicted between 82 when I got every Joe toy that year from not just mom and dad but my grand parents and aunt were in on it also, and the last yr I collected when I got the tomohawk and that run of figures, got my first .22 rifle that christmas also so the following year I slowly pulled away from joes, only to be back as you never get over your first love. thanks for the stories guys, hope you all have a Merry Christmas. -Marine-73 |

I think it was in 1987 when I was six years old. My dad told me, he had bought me the best present ever. All day long he kept talking about it, and I was hoping for some sort of GI joe toys. Finally after we had dinner and cleaned up we got to the presents.
I ripped the paper to see what was inside.....and it was a pink sweater. As a six year old boy I wasnt too happy about that particualar gift. |

I am 34, and I had a lot of great Christmas's growing up involving GI Joe. My most vivid memory is Christmas 87 or 88 when Santa brought this mysterious package wrapped in a blanket, sitting on a table. It was the last thing I opened that day, and my young mind was blown when I discovered a fully assembled Cobra Terror Drome (my mom was the master of the clearance sale, and my dad knew how to do a dramatic present reveal). It was completely unexpected, and was huge, way larger than any GI JOE vehicle or base I had seen before.
One of the last years I got Joes for Christmas as a kid was the year my brother and I got the General(probably 91 or 92). We played with that thing so much, my mom refused to give us new batteries for it That was also the year that we got in trouble for putting Joe and SW snipers on the roof of my younger sisters barbie doll house to protect them She did not approve, as that is not how you play house! Good times |

I don't remember which year, it might have been the same, but getting the night raven, hydrofoil, and the terrordrome. God, those were good toys.

I got the A.P.C. and some figures (bazooka and airtight) I went out in the snow to play with it. I just remember driving it up and down the snow bank in the front of the house and making tire tracks in the snow around the yard.
before christmas, the family was visiting grandma, my uncle came home with a K-mart bag and I could clearly see the gijoe logo through the bag and could make out the picture, I acted like I didnt know but he was looking at me with a big smile. he gave me my skystriker that christmas! he was good for a few joes every year. the year I got the TTBP. I thought it was so Big. my older brother put it together for me and it seemed to take forever. i think i got the shark that year too. the shark was always in the bathroom, ready for every bath.
