The answer is pretty obvious. People with an aggressive nature (like myself) identify with the macho / violent aspects of GI Joe, while others who are less aggressive see a harmless adventure story. And then of course you've got the crazies who think all major toy companies work for the military to condition the minds of future soldiers. Which honestly, since when is serving your country some horrible thing you've gotta be duped into? People have been joining militaries thousands of years before Duke took down his first Rattler.

Didn't anybody read Destro's Filecard?
"war is man's most natural state: the fittest survive and the greatest technological advances are made." Although I believe this is true, I think you should let your kids pick whatever toys they like. Playing is good for kids. Boys don't play house or doctor, they play fight. And although I love my Joes, I'd just as soon have them grow out of toys instead of develop a $3000 a year habit. Play sports, chase girls, and be a man. I luckily have girls, but 5 nephews. So in the end all my money is still going to Hasbro. |

And yes part of Me DOSE think that GI.Joes are perfectly o.k. for kids to play with. I'm not a big fan of censorship by any stretch of the imagination. Like the guy said a few posts back Kids at some point do need to learn fantasy, and reality are two different animals. My Mother told Me a story about Her being a kid, and watching 'Marry Poppins' wich led to Her taking an Umbrella, and jumping off the fucking roof with it. I don't need to tell You how that went. Kids will be kids, and kids do dumb shit. But telling Kids that GI.Joes are Heros I think is a little deceiving. People tell kids not to fight other children at school, but then they tell them that GI.Joes are heros who fight. It's conflicting. Sure You have to fight for "what is right" sometimes, but a lot of people have a pretty fucked up view of "what is right". |

My girlfriend was raised arround guns, and She is not a violent person. However real Guns scare the living shit out of Me. People who have authority, and a gun scare Me even more. They can kill You just if they THOUGHT you were reaching for a gun, and all they will get is susspended paid leave till the whole thing blows over. The other little bird on My shoulder tells me that they HAVE to be suspect with the job they have, and the world they have to do their job in. I understand that, and do My best to stay as far away from guns as posible. I do have a fascination with guns though. I like to see Clint Eastwood handle guns, and Charles Bronson too. I think thats why as a grown Man I have gravitated tword GI.Joes again. It's a non-violent way for Me to act out My fascination with fire arms. I used to play with Thunder Cats when I was little, and I don't really feel the need to collect those god damn things again! haha! |
