We all have those sometimes rare moments when we find that one Figure that we have been dreaming about. Y'know when you clutch the blister card to your chest in a warm, loving embrace, and time seems to pass you by? Well, there was this one time in 1987 when I had my first such occurrence. Actually, it started in 1986. Cue wavy flashback lines......
This gets pretty long winded, so read at your own discretion.... Me and my older brother and sister had it pretty good when we were Younglings. We weren't rich by any means; I would never consider us "well off," but we were frequently given great gifts from our terrific Mother, and often they would come as a complete surprise, and they were always EXACTLY what we wanted. This one time, all three of us got had a rare moment and got great marks on our report cards, and were treated to being able to pick out something that we wanted from a local department store chain called Winn's. There were two of these stores in our town, and we went to the one in Old Downtown first because my Sister knew somehow that there was a particular She-Ra figure that she wanted there. Mom told me to pick out what I wanted very carefully because we were going to stop at the other Winn's after we were done at the Downtown one, and we would not be coming back to return anything if I found something at the other location. We were at the store forever, and I looked at everything that they had, evaluating each magnificent toy. Literally the first thing that I saw I picked up and carried with me the whole time, and that was '86 RoadBlock, and I knew that this was what I wanted unless I found something better. There was no other toy there that looked as badass as that '86 RoadBlock, so that is what I got. My Brother told me to think about it and be really really sure that was the one that I really really wanted, and even though he had this devilish grin like he was trying to trick me into doing something stupid, I went ahead and decided to go with the '86 RoadBlock. He was grinnin like that the whole ride to the other Winn's. It was starting to get to me. I felt like I had made a mistake even though my new RoadBlock was so perfect. We get to the other Winn's and I hear my Brother say something to my Mom about Snake Eyes, and I immediatly got nervous for some reason and he got out of the car first and went into the store before I could stash away RoadBlock under something in the car (a habit I still have because I always assume that some one is going to try and steal my toys) and I hurried to the toy aisle. I did not find my Brother there, and they didn't have anything nearly as great as RoadBlock, either. My Mom came to get me and told me that we were leaving because Brother had found what he wanted. I thought that that was rather quick, because we usually took forever picking out what we wanted. I went to the front of the store where my Brother was and found him looking at and end cap and, I SHIT YOU NOT, it was completely stock with 1985 Snake Eyes. He had the nerve to stand there and pick out the very best of the batch. Right in front of me. I could not believe it. I begged my Mom to exchange RoadBlock for Snake Eyes, and she tried, but the clerk Lady would not do it since we got the RoadBlock at the other location (located about 5 miles from the one we were at), and it was store policy to not exchange merchedise from location to location. Mom was firm about not going back Downtown that day, but we would come back another day and get Snake Eyes. My Brother always seemed to have an inside information vibe going on. Keep in mind this was way before the internet, so it was always a complete mystery how a 9 year old knew what he knew (I swear to God he told me all about the Clone Wars and Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship when I was like 7 or 8 years old, and he was pretty accurate, too). He had the whole Snake Eyes thing planned out, too. We went back a few days later, but the end cap had been restocked with a bunch of scrunchies and what have you. I was crushed. So next year rolls around and me and the Big Bro knew that there were going start to see some new Joes soon cause my Mom surprised me one day after school with the 1987 Cobra Commander. One glorious day for my Brother came when Mom got him the entire line of Joes and Cobras from the '87 line. He was in heaven, and I knew that he deserved it because he had done exeptionally well in school at that time. I was a little bummed, though cause I didn't get anything, and my Mom picked up on that and gave me one of the figures that she had accidentally gotten two of, but unfortunatly it was the Cobra Commander that she had gifted me earlier. I guess in an act of redemption on my Mom's part, she immediatly wisked My Sister, Brother and Me to K-Mart so I could exchange The Commander for something new. I looked at everything, but there was nothing that I really wanted. There were lots of '86 RoadBlocks. Anyhoo, I started to look at the small vehicles in hopes I could talk my Mom into maybe getting one of those for me, and then I saw it... wedged behind all the figures upside down, between the back of the rack and the shelf. Snake Eyes. I reached back and carefully removed it from its hiding place. I looked at it thinking that it was some trick by my Brother. I thought I was going to find '86 RoadBlock in that blister, but this was not a trick this time. I don't know how long I stared at it. I ran to find my Mom and Co, and showed her my find. My Brother stood with his jaw swinging in the breeze, not believing my luck. He had the cunning, but I was always the lucky one. |

That is a great story! Nothing like that anticipatory excitement you have when looking and hoping you find that one toy! Heck, I think that is why you see a 42 year old man in a businuss suit rumaging through the toy aisles to this day.

It was Christmas I believe it was 1989 and I was heavy into joes at that time but only just started collecting a year or 2 earlier. I was on one of my many trips to TRU looking for new figures when I saw a Nightforce Falcon with Sneakpeak I had traded newer figures with my friends for older figures that were not sold anymore but I was never able to find someone that would trade their Falcon. I loved GI Joe the movie I had mail ordered Jinx and traded for Law Beach head and most of Cobra Law but hear was the star of the movie I quickly grabbed it and right behind it was a Nightforce Tunnelrat and Psyche out I was in heaven I grabbed both and had a very merry christmas

another great outing was this one time my dad made me go with him to flea market, I really didn't want to go with him cause I knew he had to do buisness with a vendor there and it would take forever (30 min to a 9 year old is forever) so I started wandering around and I found a stash of figures among a bunch of crap at one table and there he was GI Joe Doc one of my favorites at that time for whatever reason, there were 9 figures and a small tin with accs and I asked the vendor how much he wanted for them he said 50cents each I asked if that included the weapons he said $5 for all of them I gave him my last $5 happily and went home with Doc It was awesome
