Marvel all the way. While I liked alot of what DDP did sometimes it didn't feel the same, to me anyway. I also think canceling Reloaded might have hurt them in my standings.

I believe DDs run was better-- yes we wouldnt have got there without Marvel run which was good at the time (when I was 10), but really as much as we laud Hama for everything, have you really read some of those stories- some are just pure exposition of what they are doing followed by listing a characters name... the marvel death issue-- when they are coming out of the fire-- and then listing all the characters names- claiming they have a bullet in their gun for each of them-- even when I read it as a kid--- I was like come on- no one talks like that--it just seemed very hokey (id say almost Lucas esque). Devils Due took those great characters and brought them into today, treated them as if the characters had a real history together (like actually calling them by their names when they are playing poker instead of just saying their codenames over and over again), gave them larger level adult (meaning sex wasnt taboo) realtionships, and real situations to deal with (Bazooka getting to fat to be a Joe). I think they were better written and much more enjoyable for adults... which I believe is the audience DD was going for-- not pure kid friendly. But thats my opinon |

I have to agree that issue #21 from marvel totally seals the deal for me. That comic was a spectacular innovation in comic history...a comic with no words! Unheard of...and damn cool!
I have all 1-155 marvel issues, all image and all DDP issues. The DDP Red Shadow story line sucked...tried to reinvent super villans and they sucked. I also thought the WW3 story line was weak at best. Killing LJ was fine by me. As was the swearing and blood. IDW...you have some big Marvel sized shoes to fill!

Exactly! Hama's creativity was stifled by this problem throughout the marvel series. Marvel still wins, on the spine of issues 1-90ish. But there were some big wins for DDP like SE Declassified and WW3 and Cobra reborn. Ddp is a close runner to marvel in my book. Yeah there was some garbage but do u remember ninja force???

I liked certain stories that DDP did, but not the entire run. Anyone remember the time Snake Eyes was brought back from the dead? The first thing I thought was "oh no, they aren't going to do that, not some resurrection where this guy is conflicted and turns bad, wait..wait a min---, wait for it, wait for it.....oh great they DID bring him back as a conflicted guy that looks like Daredevil!". Thankfully the stories immediately afterward were much better and led into WWIII, which I enjoyed, and in there(and immediately prior to), we saw Snake Eyes primarily as a commando!

No contest. I've read & tried to like DDPs GIJoe but it's just missing the military touch that Hama has.
