Its wasn't the union that put them under. They took a pay cut in I think 2004. They had a numer of ceo s sence. One of which gave himself a 300 percent pay raise. All in all they had some piss pore management, and dwindling sales with the health craze.

This already happened.....
When kenner went Bye Bye. We continued to buy Star wars products from a different company. If the new product is good/better it will sell. If not it won't. |

I'm sorry, your reasonable, fact-based argument has NO PLACE here, sir!
But seriously, some collectors really do seem to live in a bubble where they pay no attention whatsoever to the world beyond collecting one particular line. In some folks' cases that bubble also happens to be made of adamantium. Good luck piercing it. |

I'm talking about ignoring the rest of the world altogether when one starts talking about the state of G.I. Joe/Hasbro. For example: GI Guppy's note that it's not just toys that have gone up in price over the last few years. It's a LOT of things. Hasbro's toy prices raising is not a problem unique to Hasbro, so it's silly to criticize them for it (not saying you do, just noting what I'm talking about with "the bubble.") Or noting that G.I. Joe is hardly the only toy line and Hasbro hardly the only company that has had problems getting (non-movie) toys to shelves in the last year or so. |

I am curious though as to how the other Hasbro products stand as far as profits and losses. It would be kind of neat to see a chart of the different brands that Hasbro has that shows their profits and losses. I just want to see where GI Joe stands next to all the other things Hasbro has.
Keep in mind that Hasbro owns G.I. Joe as an original concept. Transformers is still partly owned by Takara and is technically a license, SW and Marvel are both Licenses obviously. Even if G.I. Joe doesn't sell as well, Hasbro doesn't need to pay out any percentages on it. |

If it doesn't, then chances are it's just coasting. G.I. Joe hasn't received a mention since RoC, from what I can recall, except as a "looking forward to Retaliation" sort of thing. But really all you have to do to get a good picture of where things stand is to look at the shelf space that the various lines occupy at the local store (with recent movie toys being something of an exception to the rule): The more real estate it occupies, then at least from a historical perspective the more successful the brand. And right now...about the only place to find G.I. Joe is Toys R Us, with two pegs for figures and a handful of vehicles tucked away in a corner. Not a very good sign, though of course a large portion of the problem was the Retaliation delay, otherwise there likely would have been much more. More telling would be the limited amount of space that RoC and 30th Anniversary received...not to mention the slashing of several vehicle segments, etc... Suffice to say Joe wasn't doing too well in between RoC and now. Last edited by Jmacq1; 12-07-2012 at 01:31 PM.. |
