Well, after seeing a few of these threads, I've got a question. After asking the same toy department employee to scan if they had Joes in stock, she took my number and told me she'd call me when they came in. It took a few weeks, but I finally received a call. She told me that she'd gotten Joes in, and was saving me one of each. I arrived at the store about an hour later, and sure enough, she'd gotten 2 wave 3 cases, and I got a set of wave 3 and the 2 figs from 2 that were in it.
Is this wrong? Was she wrong for taking care of a customer? I did not know her, and, still do not even know her name. I thanked her, bought my Joes and left. I've actually not even been back to the store. I just kinda feel that this is somewhat on the same page as what a lot of folks are griping about.

if she hid them on other pegs or in another department then i think yes, she was wrong to do so. if they were kept in the back or front somehow i think this is acceptable as we have to accept a certain level of this activity just happens, between employee's or holding for customers. some stores will hold products if you call them, this in my opinion is similar to that.
stashing figures for friends is just as wrong as scalpers doing it. i mean really, what makes that any different? your still taking the opportunity away from others, just for your friends profit vs. others. either buy them for friends or let them hang proudly i say. |

Question is, was it hidden for their own benefit or maybe to give a collector a chance to purchase the figures instead of the constant scalpers that hoard everything hot and new. |

Collectors are one thing, but scalpers are another, the only way we can stop this is to quit buying overpriced figures on EvilBay, I know we all want these, but no change will happen untill the whole supply vs. demand issue is dealt with head on.

I agree with tkprime on this situation. Like I said before I've been lucky enough to get my figures for only a few dollars more than retail cost on ebay. The scalpers out there who it make damn near impossible to find figures are easy to spot, they try to charge a ridiculous amount for a toy. Let's face it, if we, the collectors don't buy from them, they're just going to have suck up the cost themselves. I also don't believe in the screw the other guy mentality. As collectors we should try to help each other out. To buy as many figures as you can just to say you have 10 of one figure is just stupid. I can see the point of some collectors where they troop build, but 100 Cobra soldiers is a bit much. I can go on, and on about this, but I'll shut-up for now. Happy hunting!!!

So are you guys saying if you worked retail and a new set of Joes you didn't have came in you wouldn't buy them before putting them out for general sale? Can you say you wouldn't "stash" them to give yourself a better chance to get them after work? Unless you have worked retail and had that opportunity you really don't know what you would do. I'm betting most of us here would find a way to get those figures.

I worked in a toy store. I held stuff I wanted in the back. Why? Because I had gotten up at 4:30 AM in order to unload a truck in the cold/rain/snow/sleet. Sure, I got paid for it...$6 an hour. It ain't much, especially in the Boston area (where I was at the time). Employees get discounts. Employees are expected to use that discount to purchase stuff, otherwise they wouldn't have it. Are employees only supposed to purchase stuff that you don't want? And how many people here have a relationship with an "insider" in a TRU or Wal-Mart? I wish I did. Are those of you complaining honestly suggesting that if you worked a toy dept or store, you wouldn't purchase something before it hit the floor because you wanted to make sure some other collector had dibs? You wouldn't hook your friends up? Sorry, I just don't buy it.
