Thought you guys might like this:
The Oktober Guard brought the Cold War home to a generation of young readers The article includes comparison shots of the GI Joe #3 ashcan and GI Joe #6, a scan of the first page of Pravda Patrol's first appearance in Bizarre Adventures #31, and a healthy heaping of 1980s nostalgia. |

Time for a part 3. I had the splash page in the video but not the ashcan full panel page. with Special Missions #1 and the new Oktober Guard in IDW Cobra as well as some Con pics and a few con inspired customs out there I might have enough for a short slideshow.

That was a great read. I'd never heard about the Pravda Patrol before, so that was a nice history lesson.

Thanks guys, really appreciate it.
@skinny: Neat slideshow. @jogunwarrior: Part of the reason not a lot of people know about Pravda Patrol/Oktober Guard connection is because a lot of the old Marvel "comics magazine" material have never been reprinted (to get around the old Comics Code restrictions back in the 1970s and 1980s, they would print a lot of their military/war, crime, and martial arts comics stuff in what were called "comics magazines" that didn't have to comply with the Comics Code Authority). Bizarre Adventures (a.k.a. Marvel Preview) had a lot of great non-superhero stuff in it, but most of it will probably be lost to time sooner than later. I'm of the opinion that if Marvel has no plans for reprinting the idle material that they are just sitting on, they should just open them up to public libraries for scanning, in the interests of historical preservation/archiving. |

Nice. The lead story in the issue features some very good old-school Frank Miller art (you know, back when he still cared enough to draw people that actually looked like people, and not melted wax figures ).
