I am a victim of hurricane sandy. The ocean flooded the area where i live and it never did this before. I had my entire toy collection in a unattached garage that was converted into a room for my toys. The subfloor i built was 6 inches abpuve the ground, mainly to keep rain water from coming in. This was not meant to keep out what had happened. 2 and half feet of water invaded my room. 90% of my carded star wars figures were damaged. My vintage joe cards were damaged as well. My collection of joe file cards are soaking wet, i have no electricity or heat. I cant c everything in the room to clean up. A foot of water also entered my home damaging all my furniture. Does anyone have suggestions? Also my collection of vintage video games were submerged in salt water. Does anyone know how i can salavge the file cards and the video games? Thanks.

Keep the carded figures flat and in the open to dry. I had my basement flood and a few of my carded figures got soaked. I left them in the open to air dry on a flat surface and they are okay. I would never claim they were mint, but for me, they look fine.
My insurance didn't cover collectible toys, however I was lucky that the adjuster was a collector and he was able to understand the value of my stuff was more than retail. In the future, get collector's insurance or additional insurance for your stuff. As far as the salt water, I do not know. |

Fema is getting involved. Will they even consider looking at my collection? Also i noticed mildew spots forming on my vintage joe boxes. How can i stop it from spreading?

might be a good time to learn to be an "opener" depending on what the insurance adjuster says about the whole thing. Please note that I am not trying to be crass.
