Gosh I'm sorry to hear that Kenny. I'm certain you're one of the tankers that own boatloads of vintage and modern Joes. It breaks me to imagine the outcome of your collection. I just hope your loved ones are safe.

So sorry about your loss. It is amazing how attached we become to our collections. I was just thinking the other day about this. To be honest after my family its the most important thing i have, which is scary.
so sorry again, take care

Keep the carded figures flat and in the open to dry. I had my basement flood and a few of my carded figures got soaked. I left them in the open to air dry on a flat surface and they are okay. I would never claim they were mint, but for me, they look fine.
My insurance didn't cover collectible toys, however I was lucky that the adjuster was a collector and he was able to understand the value of my stuff was more than retail. In the future, get collector's insurance or additional insurance for your stuff. As far as the salt water, I do not know. |

This happened to me when hurricane Charlie tore through southwest Florida. I didn't have the flooding you got but the shed where I had to store my collection was blown apart. The storage bins my carded figures were in ended up all over my yard. After I carefully collected the soaking wet cards, I brought them inside to dry. I didn't separate the ones that were stuck together until they dried. Only a few were seriously damaged. FEMA checked over my stuff and gave me about $500.00 for the damage and loss.

Try to separate the file cards before they dry. If you dont the colored surfaces become adhesives and they will all tear when you pull them apart.
As for the mildew and mold on your boxes. try using an alcohol wipe. I have never done this but in my mind the alcohol should kill most of the growth and slow it down without really damaging the box. Make sure the wipes arent sopping wet, wring them out a little first. |
