the title says it all! what version of the hiss tank do you like best and why? i am only including major changes to the body style not color variant, so for example v.5 crimson hiss w/ crimson horseman gets the same vote the poop brownv.5 gets.
because my joe knowledge is not perfect i will leave an "other" option so let me know if i missed something *EDIT* OPTION #6 is for the DTC HISS Last edited by agent888; 11-02-2012 at 01:32 PM.. |

The DTC Cobra HISS. YOJOE.COM | Cobra H.I.S.S. | YoJoe.com: Dedicated to the G.I.Joe of the 80's, 90's and beyond!
While I consider the HISS II a good second place finisher, the DTC HISS has so many great features: troop carrier, multiple weapons systems (missiles and guns), a single figure cockpit, and yet still retails the HISS tank look to it. The original HISS is a great design and I appreciate it so much, but it really only a light scout that Hasbro tried to convince us was the main battle tank of Cobra. The HISS II and DTC are much heavier versions of the original. The movie HISS is far better than v5 HISS but still looks awkward compared to HISS II or DTC.

Tough decision. Very tough decision. I finally just chose the V1 as it's the original, but I don't think there's been a "perfect" HISS yet.
But part of it depends on how you interpret the HISS. If you go by the initial "High Speed Sentry" designation, then I would say V1 and V5 are the best interpretations. If you believe the HISS should be a "main battle tank" than the V2 and the V6 are likely your best bets. If you want your HISS to be an Infantry Fighting Vehicle/Troop Carrier, then V2 and the DTC (I think that's the v4 here?) are both good. Personally if I were a Hasbro designer I would expand the HISS line into a variety of roles, either with modular parts or with flat out new vehicles. For example the "basic" HISS would be the v5. The "Assault HISS" would be a larger, heavier "main battle tank," and the the "HISS Transport" would be along the lines of the Resolute HISS. If the idea took off you could even expand it to things like "Anti-Air HISS" and "Sea (Amphibious) HISS." But that's just me... Oh, and I would note that the DTC Hiss would win this hands-down for me if they had included "cannon" options for its' main turret. As it stands, I slapped the 40mm "side cannons" from the Sigma 6 Dragonhawk on mine and that made it just about perfect IMO. PS: I would note that there was also the "Strike HISS" during the Joe vs. Cobra era, but that particular vehicle was a sharp departure from the traditional HISS design. I went with the classic.
I love the angular features of the thing that give it a very high tech (for the 1980s) look to it shared by the likes of the Delorean and ED-209. I can look past the canopy - its bulletproof glass. So far as the exposed turret goes, well, its the GI Joe universe they are just about all open air... besides that, it looks cool anyway. V

The classic hiss is iconic, but just way too undersized compared to other vehicles...I like the PoC / 30th versions alot, but would love to see a release of the DTC mold. I want something that will hold some troops.

Version 1 is the best. I would like to see a larger V1 released, with the same design and body-style.

I really like the idea of the HISS as a modular combat system that can be tooled up as an APC, IFV, tank, missile carrier, etc. |

As much as I do love the POC HISS and all it's awesomeness, I had to go with the classic verison 1 HISS. It's iconic to the brand.
But I would love to see Hasbro make a larger version of it, same look, same angles and all. But make it more like the early concept, and a troop compartment in the back. |

I really like the classic, but I think the POC version is the best (I almost feel blasphemous for saying so).
It's bigger, and I like the working treads, "attack mode", and modern design. It was nice to see the original HISS design get a much needed facelift. For the record, the black version is the best v.5 POC HISS, IMO.
