I love Movies, TV and Comics like most of you. Gijoe/Cobra being my favorite genre.
One thing I always seem to notice in many movies/TV shows and other pop culture things is how they have influenced and inspired most of the characters, story lines, designs and feel of the ARAH toys, comics, and TV show. I'd really love to read other Hisstankers take on what outside inspirations that you have noticed. If its minor or complex. I'd love your hear your ideas So please post to my thread! Here are some of my outside inspirations for some Joe/Cobra characters and plots. 1. "Star Trek The Wrath of Kahn"(1982)- Kahns Collar/open chest outfit looks like it inspired Destro #1(1983) with his same high collar pec bulging look. 2. "Mad Max(79), Road Warrior(81), Thunderdome(85)"- Inspired the Dreadnoks look and evolution from the "normal" biker gang to the Berzerker post-apocalyptic look.Thrasher and his Thunder Machine and Road Pig took on this look and forever made the Dreadnoks more bad ass than ever! Road Pig is Huge and Muscled up like 'Humungus" but his whole outfit and weapons are detailed to resemble Wez the main lunatic in Road Warrior. 3. Big Boa- who was the fill in re-vamp by Hasbro when Rocky BALBOA was a no go. Big Boa came to be and he also took a great look from good old "Lord Humungus" also from Road Warrior. 4. Cobra Commander/Cobra- Cobra and it's leader are I believe inspired to resemble the look of the Nazis and the Klu Klux Klan. I know that sounds awful and all but its just for that "bad guy effect". The entire Nazis and KKK reasons and objectives are entirely different though. Thank goodness. The colors are changed to Blue but the Cobra Soldiers Helmets and Uniforms look very much like german soldiers. A very obvious thing is Cobra Commander's hooded look. Very KKK look with a Nazi officer uniform, except blue. I know this sounds bad but it doesn't mean its not true. I think this was a good idea on Hasbro's part. The blue color of the outfit makes it not such a Nazi inspired look but the public will subconsciously know that Cobra is a global army that means business. And finally the Cobra Symbol. Typically red like the Nazi Swastika. I know this all sounds a little far fetched but at the same time if you look at it it is very obvious where the LOOK of cobra came from but not the agenda of Cobra. One last interesting part is that the Nazis had there elite branch of storm troopers called the SS. Cobra has an elite Storm trooper unit also, called The Crimson Guard or more commonly known as the CeeGees. CeeGee, SS, very close in my opinion. 5. Watch "Enter the Dragon" with Sho Kasugi. IT IS FOR SURE the inspiration for the whole entire Storm Shadow/Snake Eyes/Red Ninjas/Arashikage story. Some colors of outfits where swapped but other than that it's so close to the SS/SE story you could call it a complete rip off. Not that I mind, it's still a better movie than ROC. Its basically about a white guy that goes to Japan after serving in Vietnam and becomes a ninja at an all Japanese Ninja clan. One of the clan's ninjas gets upset that the foreigner white gut is allowed to be the new clan leader and this Japanese ninja goes after the white guy ninja with his crew of, yep red ninjas. Sounds familiar. Watch this movie though its kind of funny too. Ok that is enough from me right now. Please share any outside pop-culture, historical or what ever related influences that helped Hasbro and Larry Hama create the wonderful world of GiJoe.

#5 starts out similar, but then it becomes a real stretch.

Yes that is true too about Hydra. And hydra was a branch of sort of the Nazi/Captain America WWII thing.
I forgot about that. Good reminder, thanks.

Also wasn't GI-Joe itself inspired from Nick Fury and Fury Force?
I wish I knew where the first real non-military and more Sci Fi type character of Zartan was inspired from?

Kwinn the Eskimo = The Mighty Quinn song.
Zartan was an anagram of Tarzan. Battleforce 2000's Maverick was probably based off another pilot with the same call sign from a little known movie called Top Gun, lol |

For #3, not only does Big Boa bear a striking resemblance to Lord Humungus, but Raptor looks like the character who introduces him, the Toadie. Both of these figures were released in the same year. I would even say Hasbro came up with the most ridiculous back stories to cover up this blatant "homage".
