when you bid you agree to shipping terms.......this is what makes ebays new feedbad system so unfair to the seller....now people leave bad feedback just for feeling they were"overcharged"for shipping and handling...you bid,you agree to shipping....thats all...

What I usally do is email the seller and tell them both your problems.
1. Item arrived damaged 2.shipping costs were way overstated Give them an opportunity to correct the problem. I have had many a seller offer a compromise that I could more than live with. If he's an asshole about it, file a claim with Paypal simply stating not as described. Go through the Post Office first. You paid for insurance, you might as well use it. If the post office determines that it wasn't packed well enough to protect it, then contact the seller. If the seller gives you a problem, then you may have to file a paypal dispute. Quote:
1. Contact the seller and ask for your refund (you are likely SOL on the overcharged shipping though).
2. If he says okay. get the refund. If not, contact your credit card company to get your refund, and send the merch. back anyway. 3. If the seller was reasonable and you got satisfaction, leave him good feedback (but ding him on the high shipping anyway). If not, slam him for not refunding a damaged product and for overcharging you on shipping. Did the seller offer a premium service like Priority Mail, but then shipped it third class? I've been told by the USPS that if you send something third class, it should be able to survive a three foot fall, and survive a 25 pound box falling on top of it. I NEVER send anything this way. If it's heavy enough to send Priority, I do it. If you both agreed on something like Priority, then it should have been sent that way. Please don't ever "take it out" on a seller when things go wrong, and it's something that you didn't ask about. Quote:
Some people will just never "get it" but let's keep it simple for everyone...
When you buy something online, consider the shipping price and the price of the item together, if it is too much in your mind, do not click the "BUY" button. If this is done, there will be no need for anyone to understand or argue anything. I do agree with you. I appraise comic books as a business, and I charge $35 an hour with a one hour minimum (one "colleague" in town charges $75/hour).....therefore, I believe that my time is valuable. I could be listing, or finding new collections to sell, instead, I'm in line at the Post Office. This time of year, it takes four times as long to wait for service. Gas isn't free, boxes (unless provided by USPS) and packing materials aren't free, ink cartridges, computer repairs, electricity, ebay and paypal fees, etc......are not free. THIS is where the shipping and processing fee comes in. Granted, double charge for domestic shipping does sound a little harsh, but have you messaged the seller yet and tried to discuss this calmly and reasonably? Be careful because it's sometimes difficult to express things over email without sounding angry. Good luck.

Some people dont post a price and then surprise you after the auction is over. and I agree that shipping is not a place to charge more than $5 for handling fees.

First of all, anyone that buys something without taking the shipping price into account is an absolute FOOL.
There is no such thing as over-charging for shipping. The shipping price is clearly posted, it is part of the overall price for the transaction. Period. If you think you are getting ripped on shipping, there is a very, very simple solution: DON'T BUY IT. If you win an auction for 10 bucks with 15 bucks shipping, it's costing you 25 bucks to get that item. That is the way you need to look at it. Forget about the term "shipping," that is part of the process in getting the item to you and again, you are a FOOL if you forget that fact. Second, you are putting a lot of faith buying ANYTHING through the mail. It is not the shippers fault that the US Postal service beats up your package. They have absolutely ZERO control over it. It is the buyers job to buy insurance. I have something that I want to sell on eBay, but I am borderline petrified to do it because I am afraid I am going to get screwed. I want to sell my entire collection of Star Wars Miniatures with all the maps. We're talking well over 1000 pieces with a piece by piece value of well over $1200. I want to put a buy it not for $750 and $50 shipping (heavy cases/binders) but I don't know if that will cover the actual shipping cost, and if it does, I don't want someone to complain if it's less. I KNOW I can get that much or more for this collection, it's almost complete. But there is no way I am taking the leap of faith in sending this whole thing to someone while Pay Pal holds my money or has the possibility of taking it back because the buyer decides he wants to be an A-HOLE and try to get money back or even all the money back without sending my items back. It really scares the hell out of me. So I sit here with this collection collecting dust because I don't play it nearly as much as I used to knowing I could pay a few bills with the money I can get. Sucks.

I'm not sure where in this thread I read it, but I believe someone attempted to justify overcharging shipping to get money, due to eBay/PayPals fees. Last I read any attempt to circumvent fees, especially using high shipping, is against the Terms of Service for eBay/PayPal.

Excessive Shipping Charges Policy As well as not paying for an item, etc., etc.

Ok I sell shit on ebay and I know about the fee's (which can be very confusing and downright deceptive) and realize that you got to pass along the cost of doing buisness but georox is right that trying to get a buyer to pay your seller fees is wrong. If you need to cover that cost than you need to make your minimum bid really the minimum your willing to take, and make shipping a factual amount and charge me a REASONABLE $2-5 handling dependant on what your shipping.
What I hate now is people with digital scales who print postage off their printer and I have no way in hell of knowing how much they paid (all I have is a barcode thing) I know Im getting ripped off in those cases. I get ripped off all the time on shipping when I buy and I have gotten used to it, but I felt this was a gross example of someone taking advantage, and maybe if he had shipped it Express or 1st class and paid $35 for shipping I would of gotten an undamaged vehicle playset.

I'm not saying that is right either. My feeling is if you don't like how eBay works, buy/sell elsewhere. If someone breaks their rules, it should be reported. I don't care if its the buyer or seller.

That said, if you ever go to a real "live" auction, there is a buyer premium that is paid as well as a commission from the seller. I guess as a buyer, we should feel lucky that ebay doesn't do that as well. Quote:
They say they are trying to attract customers, but I don't think it's working. Without sellers, there can be no buyers. Without buyers, no one sells. It needs both, and it needs to be beneficial to all parties.
