I have to disagree with Fierce Krypton....in a huge way. What the heck is wrong with wanting one of everything? If nothing else...like everyone said on here, we buy up peg warmers! In my opinion, completists and troop builders drive the hobbie. Look at it like simple 101 economics...we completists and troop builders buy one of everything and stores see DEMAND and order more SUPPLY. It's not brain surgery.
I am a completist 100%...two of each. One to keep in a star case, one to open. As far as the 'cool stuff' I'll buy more. I am a completist when it comes to Joe comics, vintage figures, and new figures alike...and DAMN PROUD! Doc

Actually, you're supporting the line Which is why things work -more or less- right now. None hurts anyone by buying tons of the same figures, or buying the crap for whatever reason. Is kind of annoying the guys that buy all the figures in stock of the same charcter just to take advantage later, but is not forbidden to do it. And yet it will be supporting the Joes in their own way and will not hurt the line, since eventually, figures appears somewhere. |

Who determines what is crappy or not?
Some people will love figures that others do not. I happen to like the wave 13 Firefly, repaint or not, I think it's a cool looking figure. I refuse to buy Torch because I don't like Dreadnoks. So who determines what is sucky and what isn't?

Doc P.S. Also everyone talking about kids buying it, collectors are 98% of the market for GIJoes.

And Im not saying people shouldnt buy stuff that they like.... if you like all 30 versions of CC because you love CC than buy them all! But I dont think collectors should buy something just because a company releases it. That just screws up the future of the line.
Hasbro knows exactly how many each figure sells which is why it is gradually getting better. For instance wave 13 only has two repaints which is a huge improvement. Now if people dont just buy those two figures to be completest then it will get even better. Less and less repaints. Bottom line: If there is no demand for repaints then there will be no supply of it in the future.

Again...gotta disagree...Hasbro isnt looking at production on a repaint by repaint basis...all they give a crap about is if product is moving or not. If product is moving...we'll get new product...repaints or not. In fact, I dont mind repaints...in fact, I love the new Wave 13 Firefly repaint! He's the best one yet.

So, do you think that Hasbro is purposely putting out 'crap' figures or 'peg warmers'...?
I'd love to sit in on that meeting. Where they all chug a bottle of whiskey and then slur out what they think are the worst ideas that they have... "Hey, I've got an idea for a figure that will never sell..." For every figure that you think sucks, there is a fan. I love the Wild Bill figure, for example. |

I'm not only a competest, I'm also and Army Builder and Customizer, and I will continue to buy multiples of everything Hasbro produces.

The argument that if we all stop buying repaints Hasbro will stop making them is dumber then the argument that if we don't the line will die. And kids are buying Joes. I see it on a regular basis at the Targets I check. |

And why not??
Somebody, someplace will buy it. If they think it will sell, then they will release it. I don't have the "basic" Duke, i'm obssessed with it. I'll never get it probably, but i have the jetpack Duke, and is enough for me. So the same happens for other people. And, while keeping people like me happy, completest find another figure to buy. And They still make money and everyone is satisfyed. Think on this: they release Flash. First batch of them just dissapear. They launch a new batch, the same figure. It will sell a lot still. By the third time, only people left behind would buy it. But if they release polar Flash, desert Flash, pokemon Flash, stripper Flash... and so, they will sell always. People left behind still buy them cos is the only available. Completest will do it too, cos "they have to got' em all". There's no hurt on buying "crap". As Troynos says, what is considered crap? Personally, i DO like the Wraith, even when i doesn't look to GiJoeish, i would buy it. But the BAT looks stupid for my tastes , or Shipwreck looks ridiculous imho. |
