Hello brothers, [and sisters]
With the closing of sds, I've been forced back onto google endlessly searching for places to buy cast custom.creations.. It seems with.the exception of marauder, everyone is trying to rip us off for 2cents of plastic, and maybe two hours of sculpting. Dont get me wrong, I respect anyone who can do things that I'm either too lazy, or two thick headed to.accomplish. im searching for places online to purchase custom gear, heads seem to be in good supply, but the useful dio gear is growing harder and harder So, I thought id propose a post and share thread, hoping that we could pool our resources, maybe ive got some links you havent been to yet. Help me out my friends |

Can't help you on where to buy... I can help you with a common misconception on art. it's almost never a quick process. what seems like 2 cents of plastic and maybe two hours of sculpting is in reality 2 cents of plastic. research on the piece. sketches. revisions of original vision. hours of sculpting. scrapping it and starting over. processing orders. creating molds. pouring plastic. touch ups on the finish piece. etc and finally dont forget about the years of practice.

I think part of the problem with your question is that you don't understand the costs required to make molds and cast parts. The "2 cents" of plastic is what you receive, but it takes a lot of time to make molds - and money - and to cast parts, particularly when the mold bread down over time and use. Add in the high cost of the equipment to get started, not to mention all the "2 cents" of plastic that get thrown away due to defects, and you get a better sense of the costs. And none of that factors in the time spent on the hobby - which quickly turns into a business once people start paying money. Remember: very few of these folks went in saying, "I'm going to start a business making casts of action figures and make tons of money." You can look back and quite a few of these folks started by making a neat sculpt that someone wished they would make a cast of, and then they learned how to make casts, and then people offered them money to make them a cast, and things went from there. Once the business takes off, a person could lose virtually all their free time to making parts that folks complain are too expensive, take too long to get there, or that got lost in the mail and that they want more sent. And guys like Dave at SDS who made completely original sculpts have to pay artists like Krexx and others to make amazing parts so of course the price of these originals will be a little more than a simple cast of an existing piece. I just want you to understand that you are paying for the process, not just the 2 cent head.

Sarcasm exists, remember? ... Im sorry you misinterpreted what I wrote, but you're reading into what I said totally wrong. Please, my question simply was, now that some of the shops are closing, are there any good dealers left standing? Thanks chap, I know of a only one of those, so im pretty excited. |

most of the old SDS inventory can be found here The Angel Forge, and new sculpts from the likes of Krexx et al are going to be added soon. not much in the way of dio stuff though try here for some though Build-A-Rama - Military and Toy Soldier Diorama Miniatures and Accessories

Having said that: Tofujesse Raginspoon vortiouscustomaccessories onyxphoenixproductions hunterartworks starwarsgeek online level 7 brokenarrowtoys.com I would have to agree with both of these statements. I do this at nights and on the weekends after my full time job. It eats up a lot of your time. I would agree you are paying for the process. Materials that go into making molds get expensive. Trust me when I say doing this does will not pay the bills. I do it as a love for the hobby.

Ive read so many inconsistent reviews from brokenarrow toys, as I have purchased from him, he had a massive delay in both email response, and shipment.
What about bbi weapons and accessories, ebay is starting to get very expensive, smalljoes charges a ton for shipping, anyone with some other experiences? |

broken arrow toys is run by one man whose recently had a significant death in his family which is part of the reason for communication delay.
I believe he explained it in a thread a while back.
