Whether as a kid or as an adult collector, there is always that one special figure in your memory or your collection. For whatever reason, be it that it was the only one for miles or it just captured your imagination, it's always held a certain special spot in your heart, even to this day.
For me that one figure was back in 1985. I went and spent several weeks during one Summer with my great-aunt and uncle in Mississippi and my GA took me to a store and bought me a Cobra figure. I had my choice (and damnit if I didn't wish she had coughed up $100 because of those damn FLAGGS on the bottom of the shelves) and I knew it was probably going to be the only Joe I had with me during that visit. Even though he had no cohorts or someone to fight with, I had so much freaking fun with it because it was bought by someone I loved and I knew loved me. I don't think at that age I ever imagined I would have so much fun... ...with a Tele-Viper. That's mine, so who was/is yours? |

However, I went to stay with my Grandma and Grandpa for a couple of weeks in the early summer of 1987 right after school let out. I took the 3 most recent figures I bought with me, to have something to do in the evening time. I had Outback, Croc Master and a Cobra Viper( he came out in 1986, but it took me awhile to get him ). I played out scenario after scenario with just those 3 figures. Everything from Outback being shot down and being pursued by Croc master and the Viper; to Outback tracking down a secret Cobra base in the swamp. Every since then Outback has always had a special place in my Joe universe. |

my special joe/cobra well was just that cobra the enemy or cobra trooper . I just loved the fact that he was like the stormtroopers of Sw a grunt and did all the hard work and stuff also the fact he had the mask and was like anonymous too .so mine spent his life in sand pits ,driving vehicles (even the joe ones and ocasially SW ones) he went most places with me to friends houses etc.

I had very very few single Joes when I was a kid. Most of the figures I had were vehicle drivers. I've loved aircraft my entire life... I bet folks can guess where this is going. Ace and Wild Bill were my go-to Joes. Thinking back, Ace in particular. His goofy-ass helmet meant he was a pilot, and an astronaut, and a scuba diver. Wild Bill had a cowboy hat and a freakin' helicopter.
Can't get much cooler than those two dudes to a 4-year old. |
