It's interesting to note that they changed the Autobot and Decepticon logos slightly for the film (the "eyes"), but have changed them back to the classic look for the current running Animated series and toys.
I don't know if that was a Bay thing to purposely differentiate "movie" from "everything else" or what. |

I guess it all has to do with Symbology...certain visual archetypes are associated so strongly with whatever the design/icon is, that it subconciously sets off visual cues which immediately make you take notice...take the Radiating icon for nuclear material, the biohazard icon for infectious material, hell even the swastika itself immediately causes a reaction as soon as the eye picks it up and the brain processes the emotions of fear or repulsion in the cognitive center. So I guess it's whatever you associate emotionally with a symbol/icon that gives it its power. Just my humble ramblings, take'em with a grain of salt.
I've also heard the rumor that the Decepticon symbol was modeled after Soundwave's head because he was supposed to be the leader of the Decepticons but since the toy was much taller than Optimus, Hasbro chose Megatron (Who is closer in height to Optimus) to be the leader. I don't know how true this is, but it's something I've heard over the years. |

It's a shame that I'll see people in a store, looking at a chinese or Japanese item, that encorporates that symbol and think that it's a horrible thing not understanding it's different then the nazi version.

I think I always post at the wrong times, or just write too much to read... Anyone else have any info or interest on this?
Just checking again, I'm still curious and haven't been able to dig up much else... |

Ok.
So here it is. The TF logos were created by the Ad agency Griffin/Bacal. They were a very small agency back then so it was either Tom Griffin, or Joe Bacal who came up with them. The Autobot symbol was based off of Prowl/Bluestreak's face, and the Decepticon symbol was based off of Soundwave's face. Hope that helps.

G/B is owned (or from what I read) by my former employer (at least the remaining assets of the company, it seems). |

The Cobra logo is very close to perfection. It just conveys everything they are so well.

I found this out through one of my TF connections. Who was your former employer if you don't mind me asking?
