There's a lot of comic books to choose from if you want to read up on some Joe action, as well as a fair amount of fan fiction available online. There were also some choose your own adventures and other pre-teen short stories that have been produced over the last three decades. However, there haven't ever really been any good novelizations written for those of us that would care to read some adventures of our beloved franchise. And I wonder why. Is there not enough interest? Has the comics eclipsed the need for a more 'adult' novel? Did the cartoon series make it too outlandish to happen?
I personally would love to have a novelized series similar to what has been done with Star Wars, on a smaller scale obviously. Would anyone else read these if they were available?

There were the 2 novels associated with ROC. Other than that, I can't think of any with the exception of fan fiction.
I'd read something on Firefly or Destro.

Well this sounds interesting. Not actually a novel, but it still could be a good read. I'll have to try to find one.

I'd go for it if it had nothing to do with the movies..more like the further adventures of G.I. joe.

Yeah, I was thinking a continuation of the original Marvel/Hama story line. I liked the Special Missions comic series. I really wouldn't be interested if it was anything like ROC or Sigma 6. But something like a continuation of the Resolute cartoon would be interesting, or a grittier reboot of GI Joe for the present.

I would love some, but written more for adults. Similar to the Star Wars novel (which I have over 100 hardcover SW novels). I love them, they are not for kids, but all ages can read them.

You never heard of The Cobra Wars before this? It was great, all the writers who collaborated are serious mystery and spy-novel writers. And Max Brooks who is an awsome horror and comedy writer.
I dont think its surprising that there arent more Novels of GI Joe besides the Movie tie-in novels and the Tales From the Cobra Wars. Same shit can be said about literally every other franchise except for Star Wars and Star Trek whos fanbase goes beyond fans and into the realm of obsessed ultra-nerds! Transformers only has the Movie tie-in novels and a few Predator and Aliens ones are out there but thats it! None of the cartoons or franchises we grew up with have made for a book market.

But your point is what I wonder about; the reason that GI Joe has never successfully transitioned into novelization territory. I mean, it seems since they already span toys, comics and cartoons that there are already some complicated copyright issues. Certain core character names had to be subtlely changed (like Double Clutch and Dataframe) because of this. I think ultimately Hasbro owns the rights to the characters, but who really knows?
