I was sitting here looking at my DG Joes and was wondering who is really the big winner when it comes to sale/purchase/profit of these figures. They are made in China so the labor is getting paid. Although I really wonder sometimes how China feels about producing American military toys. Hasbro distributs them through Canada by what looks like brand sale only. So this is the part where Hasbro is making money off the brand and not paying taxes. Dollar General is owned by a conglomerate whose base is in Tennesee and major investors are american. This is the heavy lifting and selling part. And the DG stores are located in 35 states in which the figures are purchased by consumers. I am not really sure if you can purchase these figures in Canada or outside the U.S. So here is my breakdown of medals for DG Joes.
1. Gold medal: Canada, maximum profit-low risk/labor 2. Silver medal: United States-Small profit-enjoyment of purchase 3. Bronze medal: China-Semi skilled labor profit, secondary market I really would like to know how the Chinese toy sellers on ebay come by some of their figures. They always seem to be able to get the prototypes and factory seconds onto ebay for next to no shipping and at a decent price and ship around the world. Is someone sneaking the rejects out of the factory? Can you imagine someone selling secondary market IPADS or smartphones around the world for a fraction of the price that were obviously right out of the factory. |
