I think we can all agree that the cartoon gave the toy a huge boost in terms of sales back in the 80s.
When I first got back into collecting the new 25th series, I was trying to find all the cartoons online somewhere but have yet to find anything more than short clips on youtube and sites like that. What GI Joe needs is to re-release the cartoon and get kids back into it. One big problem is finding channels nationwide to broadcast it and then providing it at a time and channel where everyone who wants to see it, can find it and follow along from the beginning. Here is where my idea comes into play. Release it online. Each week, add another episode online like the Southpark guys do at southparkstudios.com. It is free to watch and very popular. Before the toon starts, they could run a commercial about the toyline, maybe another in the middle of the 22ish minute episode. The cartoon would be back, anyone could watch, it would boost sales of the toys, kids today could start out fresh and follow along from the beginning and really get into it. The great thing about online vs using TV is even if people don't hear about at the beginning they can still start out at episode 1 and go through since they will all be online. Thoughts? |

It's already being done...The old series has a link from gijoe.com and Hasbro has announced GI Joe Resolute some months ago. Some of the figures are being released with wave 13. It's going to be a mini-series of sorts. There's a preview they showed at Joecon and SDCC. You can youtube GI Joe Resolute and it'll show up.

Hmmm. it seems there are parts of the original episodes on the gijoe.com site but no where near enough to follow along from the beginning. Aren't there like 150 episodes? I think there are about 10-15 on that site and that is spread out over the whole life of the series. Not to mention some episodes are 3 minutes long. The first one with the Mass device was only 11 minutes. What is the point?
I did not know about the Resolute stuff, the preview looks pretty cool there. I hope they don't stray too far from the original though. |

They've been releasing stuff in the DVD packs. Can get the first 5-part mini-series that started it all, and a best of.
On the internet, use this thing called "torrents", they work wonders on finding stuff like this. And Resolute IS NOT ANYTHING LIKE THE ORIGINAL! It's a modern cartoon, there is death. How far it strays, I'm going to say it strays alot but, from what I've seen, all in a good way.

Or you can go to Free Videos Online - Watch TV Online - Free Video Clips | Veoh Video Network and they have all the episodes there. 1st season and second season and even the lame dic cartoon from the early 90's.

I think it's an awesome idea firefly's phone!
Sure there are places we could go to watch the orginal cartoon series. But it would be so much simplier and better if we could just go to an official website and watch everything. Man that would be great, I'd be a hit for sure. |

You know I was watching the MASS Device on Youtube yesterday and I noticed that there are actually scenes where stuff blows up but you don't see any Cobra safely ejecting.....guess there were apparent deaths in the old cartoon...but it wasn't obvious.

I dunno why Hasbro can't get the old show back on TV. The animation is no worse than many of the lame Anime shows that are redubbed over here, many of which are from the 80's.
There's a toyline to support it. They can sell all the same stuff. Kids today won't know any different. It's not like "re-runs" since the show hasn't been on the air for 15 years or so. This is a "new" show to kids of today. |
