So does anyone have a conclusive answer as to why Heavy Duty the character is being erased and Roadblock the character is being turned into Heavy Duty? It's a bizarre thing.
Plenty of people have lost their names, or whatnot. I know that Heavy Duty was always a poor man's Roadblock, but that happened a lot in GI Joe. A new guy would come in and update the job. A good example is Breaker and Dial Tone. But why all of the sudden is Heavy Duty assimilating Roadblock borg style? They're doing it in the movie, in the new toon and now in the new comic. The artist even said that's specifically what they're doing. WHY? |

Maybe to integrate the Sigma idea to the movie. So that the new generation who may of started to watch GI Joe Sigma can relate to the movie......my 2 cents

Maybe Roadblock was a bit too stereotyped? The whole talking in rhyme thing? Not PC enough for our uber-sanitized world.

I don't know, but I HATE that their doing this!
I'm not going to rant about the lack of Joes from the South, but Roadblock is the only Mississippian on the Joe team, and Heavy Duty is from Illinois where there are plenty of Quality Joes: Grid-Iron and Free Fall come to mind immeadiately. That's a shame and an injustice - It's a crock! But there are plenty more reasons. 1. Roadblock is a much better name - way cooler. It's two syllables that just sort of roll of the tongue. It's way easier to say, than the 4-syllable "Heavy Duty". 2. Roadblock is a Ranger. Heavy Duty is not. 3. The Comic book - Roadblock is one of the toughest, most accomplished, longest standing Joes on the team. He was the best, toughest Machine Gunner they had and had his first appearance along side Duke at General Flagg's funeral where he promptly shot down a Cobra Aircraft with a .50 cal that he held by himself. Anybody recall the time he was on a Mission in Sierra Gordo with Flint, Lady Jaye and the October Guard?... he volunteered to stay behind to hold off the advancing tanks with no hope of escape, and carried a man out to safety. Or the time they were evacuating an embassy and he endangered himself to go and get the American flag before they left? When the ambassador asked why he bothered to save a flag over anything else, like an expensive computer, Roadblock just casually said, "Nobody ever died for a computer." He was everything a Joe should be. 4. The rhyming thing was only in the show, but even in the show he was Awesome - anybody remember how he sacrificed himself to save Flint in "Pyramid of Darkness", and then went on to almost singlehandedly attack and defeat Cobra Temple? Awesome. - Absolutely one of the toughest Joes in the Comic or the Cartoon. 5. What has Heavy Duty ever done? Ever? I may never get over this!

using Heavy Duty doesn't mean the Roadblock character is being turned into him. they are still being kept as two different characters and Heavy Duty is simply taking the more prominent role. big difference between that and what you are stating. for the movie, Hasbro said it was as arbitrary as the writer simply preferring the name.

Also in a interview, it was said Hama prefered Heavy Duty to Roadblock. From the description of HD in the new Joe book, it seems just the code names have been switched. Until it's shown otherwise, to me the new "Heavy Duty" is still Marvin S Hinton. And the HD we all know, will probably be given a new code name, but the core of the character will remain the same, like his real name, etc..

Now, I saw the new IDW issue and in the back of the comic, with all the character drawings, there was a very clear drawing of v2 Roadblock labeled as "Heavy Duty". Have you seen this comic? What do you make of that, if they're not combining them as one character? I don't know how else to explain it.
