I have seen quite a few threads here on the 'Tank concerning collectors selling off their collections due to their wives being pregnant or a new baby having been born.
My question is, does that mean you HAVE to sell your collection? Being a new father myself (my daughter was born two months ago) I know that collecting drastically changes as a result. First, I no longer have a room to myself and my collection. It's now chok full o' pink girly stuff that only interests me if it please my baby girl. No room = boxed up big boy toys. A kink, but by no means death to my collection. Diapers and other baby stuff is EXPENSIVE, but that doesn't mean I'm selling off my entire collection - much to my wifes chagrin. I have had to make changes and cherry pick a bit more as opposed to BBTS just sending me any and all new Joe waves, but it it's actually a good thing since I'll no longer end up with multiples of unfavorable figures. I know a baby is life changing, and certainly our economy is forcing some severe life changes, but does a newborn mean that a collector can no longer collect? Sure a baby hits the pocket book and thus means some budgets no longer have room for action figures, but does that mean you have to sell off everything you do have?

I gots a baby on the way and I will be selling some stuff soon. Not all of it. I have collected partially for my son that is coming and partially for me. I can easily clear out a ton of excess stuff and still have a great collection for him to play with later.
I can certainly understand though. People go through phases and their interests turn to something else and they just arent passionate about joes anymore, the baby takes priority.

If I had it my way, I'd be burried with my collection... I love my daughter more than anything and she has become the central focus of my life, along with my wife, but I'm not giving up my hobby. Diff'rent strokes I suppose.

I'm having my first child next month. Were having a baby girl. I lost my spare room, now my Joes are confined to a walk in closet. The wife said I can build shelfs in our bedroom to display my loose collection, but my MOC stuff will be confined to the closet for now. My MOC collection always comes first, when I have extra money I buy stuff to open up and I only troop build up to four. So it kind of sucks cause my MOC is huge compared to my loose collection.
My wife doesn't expect me to sell my stuff, she encourages my collecting. But, I can't take advantage of it, thats why I only troop build up to four, I can't afford more, and I don't need the wife complaining. So I would say no, you don't have to sell your collection just cause your having a baby. I would only sell my collection if I was going to loose my house or couldn't feed my family...

Were I to be in dire financial straits, I'd sell, sell, sell. But until then, I'm not stopping for the forseable future. Funny, I troop build to four as well. Four troopers and one officer. I broke that rule on the Cobra Troopers though...Love those bad boys.

LOL. Yea same here, I do it up to 4, plus the officer. I haven't broke my rule yet. I missed out on the troopers, I only have one MOC. I am waiting to pick up 4 of the red mask troopers, instead.

I have a 2 week old baby girl and my collecting interest or financial ability to collect hasn't changed, so there isn't a need to give it up, but a new baby can change those things for some people and it is reasonable as a result to stop collecting. the only thing that has changed is my ability to hunt, so I have become more dependent on ordering online and a local friend I met here to help.

My wife and I had a baby about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Since then, I haven't really slowed down....in fact, I've bought about $500 worth of stuff since he was born, including one of my holy grails (a UK Headquarters Commend Centre).
If I'm lucky, he'll take an interest in my collection some day and I will have a partner in crime. If not, then it'll still be my deal. I've never given a thought to slowing down too much, much less selling off my collection. But then again, we're fortunate to be financially secure, even in this time of economic concern. I'm sure if money was an issue for us, I would certainly slow down or possibly even stop collecting for a while, but I still doubt I would sell out.
