I spent two years in Afghanistan as a civilian medic, mostly in Kabul, Herat, Khost and sometimes Bagram. No toys at the PX in Kabul or Bagram.
A buddy of mine would send me toys almost once a month while I was there. It was like Christmas when I came home though. It would take a couple days to go through all of the stuff I ordered off the internet while I was gone. I still work overseas as a medic, mostly in Africa and the Middle East and I have yet to find toys in any of those locations. In fact, I got pulled aside in Ghana because I had an Iron Man figure in my pocket. The security guy thought it was pretty cool. |

We’ve been stationed in Germany for three years already, and we still manage to collect G.I. Joe. The local PX stores used to carry 25th anniversary and Rise of Cobra products, but that’s where they stopped. They won’t touch G.I. Joe now, and I don’t know why.
Now, we really miss the fun of going on a toy hunt that we used to enjoy back in the States. Hasbro Toy Shop formerly refused to ship to the military members overseas. I raised enough uproar that they changed their policies shortly thereafter. Strangely enough, between that event and numerous SDCC exclusive disappointments, I never have returned to HTS to give them my money. We used to buy items from the GIJCC store (back when they used to have one) but the shipping rates were ridiculous! They used to ship our merchandise boxed with advertisements about BBTS, so one day we tried them; we never went back to the club after that! BBTS exceeded our every expectation, and continues to receive our money now. |

Currently on an exercise in Jordan for a few more days. During my prior deployments to Bosnia, AFG, and Iraq I relied on internet sites. In Bosnia, I spent a lot of time on ebay (before it was blocked) rebuilding my SW collection.
I am on a Joe "hold" other than the Con at the end of the month that my wife suggested we attend. The increase in figure cost just not pass my better judgment for something I will open, put on a shelf for a short time and then box up in tackle boxes. |

I have been thinking about starting a project called "Joes for Joes" where ht members could help brighten the days of our troops by donating a figure or two to our fellow community deployed all over the world.
You guys have pretty much confirmed what I thought as you wind up holding up collecting or relying on someone else to try and keep up which is great, but I know my wife would be lost trying to find me the correct figures lol . This being said, I am going to contact ht staff about starting this project and defer to some of my traveling brothers here for advice and help and see if we can set up a new program four deployed troops, the real American Heroes. I like to joke around and have fun here, but there are some things I feel very strong about and loyalty toward our troops is one of them. I am officially adopting Money Collins who is deployed in Afghanistan till August.... I am sending you the go joe trooper and zartan you were hoping to get. Please pm me if you interested in contributing to the cause. Collins, I may ask your help in helping qualify members in need if you wouldn't mind. |
