1.Depending on the size of the various G.I.Joe Bases, the support staff would need to be two to ever one of the Joe Operatives.
The support staff would need to be cross trained in at least three specialties. The main base may need to be three support staff for every Joe Operative, since that would be where the Research and Development Department would be. 2.The Heavy Water Troopers are the Cobra Radiological Weapons Specialists. They are the feared division of the Toxo-Vipers. All the Cobra Troopers know to avoid then if they happen to run into one in a corridor. The sign over their locker room reads Radiation is out friend.Carelessness with shielding is our enemy. 3. The Heli-Vipers are the Cobra Battle Copter Pilots. They are the elite of the Cobra Aviator Elites. If any Cobra wants to be a Heli-Viper,they are screened by Cobra Commander. One part of their training is to perform risky maneuvers blind-folded and without any weapons while under live fire. Those that can`t pass this part of the course are out for good. |

If the character resembles the other version, they stay the same, but if there's a little difference in head sculpts they become new characters.
So Duke (out of the figures I have) has the 25th/ARAH version, the Red Star Comic Pack, Resolute, RoC Desert, RoC City Strike and RoC Jungle Assault (the last 2 upcoming, I think the heads are different enough for my uses). Southeast Asia would be the best location, what's a friendly country in that part of the world? I like the chalk idea, a medium size unit that can be broken up into smaller fireteams. I ditched the Flagg. My Joe unit doesn't have jet fighters, but does have VTOL craft. I use the JHVS for my navy, with a couple of Mark V as escorts. Thailand? Taiwan? Australia? are there any bases left in the Philippines? Diego Garcia? Still I wonder how many sailors should the Joe Naval Forces have? 150? 500? 1000? Quote:
Oooh Col Trautman. Colton is good. I'm waiting for the Clubs Adventure team leader as he will look perfect for Colton Quote:
I have the same problem
On the one hand, Asia needs a base all its own but where?. Japan, Korea, China and HK would be huge Cobra targets for both recruitment and activity. It's where the money is. Not to mention we've seen in the comics that Cobra was recruiting from the Yakuza. Also this area is Black Dragon territory. In the comic, both Jinx and Budo were based in Tokyo but I like the idea of both of them stateside. I think someone like Quick Kick would be a better fit. Half Korean/Japanese and is in the film industry means he can move around and collect intel. I've been toying with the idea of bureaus all over the world. Manned by say six joes, similar in concept to the bureau concept in the DD comic. In SE Asia, I'm thinking Col Braddock (MIA) and John Rambo as operatives. They do their own thing but when will work with the Joes when they need to. The other HUGE problem is the FLAGG. even if treated like a mini carrier, that's still alot of sailors. Even a tenth of the crew is like 500-600. I have the carrier based in the Atlantic and treat it as a prototype. It has it own air wing (using the storm eagles) but no support craft. That's another thing, carriers travel in groups. There's usually 2 destroyers, a frigate, a cruiser, tanker and a sub. I'm thinking maybe 30 staff plus air crew. If Clutch is your mechanic, he needs to be treated as a part-time mechanic since there's a chance he can be pulled away on a mission. When this happens, the base staff operates short handed but they still operate. It's this that makes the Joe support team so damn big. The helicopters and jets need flight crew and maintenance, there needs to be control tower operators, there needs to be armorers for dealing with the weapons systems. And then if you tack on an R&D aspect, that's alot more people. Even something like the generators and boilers to run the systems of the base need operators, and those operators are specially trained. When start trying to apply support staff, it gets HUGE.

I like the JHVS cause it's got a small crew and can hold alot of troops and equipment and deploy them easily.
The Flagg is just a logistics nightmare if you try to think in real terms. The Flagg's crew would have to be non-Joes. Even a Tarawa class has a huge crew and that's alot of personal to Vet into the system.

Australia, probably New Zealand would be better, could serve as a decent location for a base for that part of the world. Not the closest, but it is friendly. Maybe some of those islands between New Zealand and Asia? One of those small ones in the Indian Ocean area? I'm sure the Joes could find an uninhabited one fairly easily and make a good base there.
Just make sure it's not the one from Lost.

Diego Garcia (UK), Christmas Island (Australia), or one of the many Islands of Thailand?

I'm liking the island idea. Really liking it as a main base as well...
Perfect place for the Joe Navy to dock, can have an airstrip.... No wonder Cobra wanted their own Island. I wish I owned a Blackhawk (from DC Comics) figure now, he'd be right at home.

Intersting points about the logistics/support staff. In the days of Pit 1 & 2, it was easier snice McGuire AFB housed their aircraft and they didn't need suuport crews at the Pit. As far as Asian bases, in the Transformers 2 prequel novel, & the movie, the trrops are based at Diego Garcia. BTW, earlier there was a discussion about when Blushirts became Vipers in the comics. I found Blue shirts up to issue 80, the Rolling Thunder issue. Hope that helps.

Even a Tarawa class has a huge crew and that's alot of personal to Vet into the system. Neither the HSVs or the LCS hold much aircraft but they can role out with a crew of like 40 or so 75 if you add the Air Wing for like 3 helicopters. So lets say that this USS Flagg replacement I'm imagining is really only for insertion close to shore. Its serve as mostly a transport ship but has the ability to be a mobile stirke force for close Air Support as well. So what would be the right compliment of Aircraft it would carry? Like 6 VTOL craft? 4? and maybe 6 Helicopters? Or going only off existing Joe Vehicles: 4 Tiger Rats or we could pretend the Thunderwing is actually a F-35 F-22 crossover and has VTOL. 3 Tomahawks 3 Dragonflys or Dragonhawks 3 Skystorm X-wings 3 Night Attack Choppers 4 Skyhawks 4 Locusts Or maybe half that many. |

I believe the JHSV can hold a couple of Blackhawks, so if can hold 2 Blackhawks could hold 4 Skyhawks or 2 Tomahawks or 2 Dragonflys or 6 Locusts or.....
There really isn't a ship that would be absolutely perfect for the Joe's needs, at least one not existing yet. A JHSV with a flight deck would be perfect, no Skystrikers but it would be VTOL capable. The biggest problem with the Joe support staff is how "covert" is your Joe unit? If they are on the level of Delta Force, can use the existing military support structure (like using the guys at McGuire AFB). If they are more top secret then that, then you need to fully Vet the support structure and the support teams become as top secret as the Joes themselves.
