Thought I'd mix it up a bit and do a Cobra image/filecard for a change (click on the picture to view the filecard):
I struggled a bit trying to "modernize" Storm-Shadow, up until I realized that "modernizing" him was the wrong way to go. Storm-Shadow is supposed to be an anachronism, and contemporizing him would be losing the point of the character entirely. Instead, I tried to "update" him by making him more plausible as a real-world ninja, dispensing with the "Hollywood ninja" elements (spandex balaclava, skin-tight gi, forearm wraps, etc.) that informed the 1984 character design. Storm Shadow looks great. Love the mask. Very menacing. Do more Cobras, lol.

Storm Shadow is badass, nice job.
So, earlier people were talking about their childhood confusion over Beachhead's backpack, which I can certainly understand. I always figured the 'umbrella' was part of a satellite communication device. I have a similar question, re: Spirit's rifle. I desperately want it to "make sense," as it were, even though I'm not usually particularly anal about that kind of thing with Joes. So what is it? Please don't say "arrow rifle" or "dart rifle." I know that. But is there any chance it's something like a modified Remington?

Yeah, Spirit's always kind of bothered me too. I LOVED that he carried extra ammo with him, that was always a big plus for me. The rifle looked cool and to a kid's imagination, an automatic dart thrower was bad-ass, but yeah... it needs to be replaced.

Unfortunately, it is an "arrow rifle." An "autoarrow rifle" to be specific, based on the little list on the figure's card, IIRC. I think the 25th Anniversary Spirit figure actually fares better... the "arrow magazine" is removable, and without it, if you squint a little, the rifle looks a little like a Remington 700 bolt-action rifle.
His filecards don't mention an arrow rifle; I just doublechecked. The 84 filecard has the usual blurb about "Qualified Expert: M16, M1911A Auto Pistol, Remington Sniper Rifle." The 25th Ann. card says the same except for "Remington Marksman Rifle." And again, I know it is, essentially, an "arrow rifle," but I'm grasping at straws here. I don't know why I need it to make sense, but I do. ;)

It wasn't the filecard, it was alongside the card on the front. All the older ones used to list what the equipment was.

I miss those things. I wrote a post here long time ago about how I wish they were on the 25th cards.

Speaking of Spirit, I always prefered his code-name ("Shaman") in the original Canadian version. Sounded way cooler. Too bad the Canadian release of 25th Anniversary Spirit kept the US code-name. It would have been neat if they'd kept the Shaman name as an homage to the original Canadian release.
