Right now I have him starting out as an 11B Infantryman (where he could have gone to Sniper School) then reclassifying as a 14S Air and Missile Defense Crewmember. However when reading the latter part of his filecard it states he marks targets for Ace, meaning he might be JTAC-qualified. So does the guy focus on air or ground targets? Since I have no use for Joes qualified to attack air targets I may make him a JTAC qualified as a sniper. I may even look into the possibility of making him a Marine, since it does not state "Army" anywhere on his filecard. That would at least cover his SMS of "Infantry" since all Marines go through the School of Infantry. So the question remains would he go into the Artillery field where he can be a Fire Support Marine or into the Air Control/Air Support/Anti-air Warfare/Air Traffic Control field? One of the issues with this path is where would he pick up his sniper skills (since he utilizes a sniper rifle)?

Also, you asked me about where I put Deep Six. At the moment, he's in a Combat Support role attached to one of the Sabre Squadrons as the Dive Locker NCOIC. He pretty much supervises all the Dive equipment, maintenance and dive training for his Squadron and is also in charge of submarine lock in-lock out procedures and hyperbaric chamber operations. As a Master Diver he would be qualified in dive medicine too. |

As far as I know, Marine snipers, unlike Army snipers are trained to call mortar / ground fire so you could give him that background ?

The real life Marine started as a Infantry Assault Marine then became a Small Arms Weapons Instructor before becoming a Warrant Officer. From there he became a Range Officer and then on to a Infantry Weapons Officer. From reading Hollow Points filecard it states he trains the Joes in the use of new weapons and such. This sounds like what a Infantry Weapons Officer does. The only thing I may change is having Hollow Point start out as a Rifleman instead. So my take on Hollow Point is he is not one of the "door kickers" or a sniper. He advises a Squadron Commander on the various weapons use and placement and such. |

I like the use the Ultimate Duke as Red Spot, so basically then Red Spot and Sightline look like they should be together. Makes a great ROMAD/TACP team.

Hmm, I did not realize that about Marine snipers. I am guessing the only way to become a sniper in the Marines is to go through the Scout-Sniper School? I read someplace that they only take those Marines in the Infantry MOS. So he could have started as a Rifleman then become a Scout-Sniper (would cover his Infantry MOS and sniper and JTAC skills). The only unknown is his anti-aircraft skills.

I don't have Sightline in my fic, but I'd tend toward the idea of just making him a sniper, and possibly a Marine one at that, and stuff the idea of him being anti-air. He looks more like a sniper than anything else. His codename's kinda sniper-sounding. so...

And to you Cap,
I;m so jealous of all you Northern hemisphere types. I'm spending Christmas with my folks and where they live is the hottest it's been in 71 years...42 Degrees Celsius / 107.6 Fahrenheit. Thank goodness for air conditioning |
