I've always thought of the Argen 7 guys as Americans. Or more accurately, Americans-as-seen-through-the-eyes-of-the-Argentinians. If you read their original filecards, it's obvious that whoever wrote them for Plastirama tried to give them "American-sounding" real names: Redmack is "Reginald Cobb," Shimik is "Jerome Ford," Manleh is "Jason Kavanagh," Topson is "Frank Barbieri," and Glenda is "Jane Mullighan." If their codenames sound exotic or foreign, I think it's because of the language barrier. Whoever came up with the codenames just went with cool-sounding (to them, at least) random combinations of English and/or English-sounding words (sort of like an Argentinian version of Engrish).

I certainly don't see him as a desk jockey if he did serve in the military. |

Wild Weasel for sure. Nobody becomes a professional mercenary attack/fighter pilot by practicing on civilian aircraft... those skills are something you can only learn in the military. Besides, his code-name already hints at him having Vietnam War experience... "Wild Weasel" was the nickname given to F-4 Phantom and F-105 Thunderchief jets that were used on SEAD (suppression of enemy air defenses) missions. It was also the unofficial nickname given to the F-4 Phantom pilots of the 35th Fighter Wing who specialized in SEAD tactics during the Vietnam War.
Which then leads to "why did he leave and become a terrorist"? The name still works even if slide him up the time frame. Can say his father was a fighter pilot in Viet Nam and flew F-4 Phantoms.

But yeah, I guess I see the Argen 7 as Americans that were "on loan" to Argentina.

Thats my thoughts, but I think it would have to be something a bit more then disillusionment that would make someone become a terrorist.

A guy like Wild Weasel likely doesn't see himself as a terrorist. Being a mercenary pilot, he probably sees himself as being in a legitimate private military aviator profession, and rationalizes his choice of employer via all sorts of moral and ethical mental gymnastics (if he even cares to rationalize any ethical or moral concerns away... I imagine he's one of those pilot-obsessives who just likes to fly and shoot and doesn't really care about the ramifications of the jobs he signs up for... he's not "capital E" evil, but at the same time, he doesn't really care if he's killing innocents or committing crimes in the course of flying for Cobra, as long as he gets to do what he loves and get paid handsomely for it).

If a pilot had done those things, I could understand a psychological break and a dissallutionment with America.

Well, if he had been involved with the bombing of civilian targets in Cambodia or Laos, or with the Air America project which basically used CIA assets to transport heroin for Cambodian drug cartels, it could be pretty easy to start losing faith in the American dream. We killed like 600,000 civilians in countries that we weren't even officially at war with. It was pretty terrible.
If a pilot had done those things, I could understand a psychological break and a dissallutionment with America. I can see becoming anti-american after bombing civilians, but how does that lead to doing the same thing for Cobra? I like Zulu's idea.

Certainly Cobra is opposed to a lot of other nations, especially NATO countries, but their main enemy is the world's last Super Power: the USA.
