Red Cell is supposedly a "fictionalized" account of what the unit actually did. It does mention alot of the antics that got the real unit in hot water.

The way I see them operating is that they are scattered across the US and the rest of the world. Say, there's a situation in downtown Cleaveland. It'll take the Joes 2 hrs to get there. The Pitt activates the agents in the area and they secure the site, conduct surveillance and can either provide on site support when the joes get there or they can take control of the situation themselves.
Also, if Joe ops finds an unknown viral agent that was stolen from a top secret facility, The ops officer can get on the satlink and get expert advice from a professor in Addis Addiba, He's a member of the Steel Brigade. What do you guys (and girls) think?

I don't know what figure you're using as the base, but Outback was always protrayed with long-ish hair in his early appearances. Not glam rock style long hair, more like 1980s mullet type locks. Spirit had real long hair done up in braids. Budo has long hair as oliverbox mentioned, but he wears it in a style particular to traditional samurai... heavily oiled and folded upward along the midline of the top of the cranium and laid flat, held in place with a clip of sorts so it wouldn't look like long-hair at all.

[QUOTE=zuludelta;1071849]Neat use of the Steel Brigade concept! If there's anything I'd potentially take issue with (and it's just me nitpicking at this point), it's the name. Are they really going to be a brigade-sized unit? Personally, I think Steel Battalion (even uses the same initials!), Steel Squadron, or Steel Regiment has the same ring to it, but the allusion to a smaller-sized force structure makes them sound like a more elite grouping.
Yeah, Steel Brigade implies 4,000 to 5,000 members (and I only have 10 tops ) But I just wanted to keep in synch with the established name. Your other suggestions sound awesome. Can't believe I was actually thinking about calling them "Steel Company" hahahaha "OMG that's so frikkin' genius Tyroc it's brilliant. Yeah Presidential Decree sounds great. Why should they have to follow the rules to the letter anyway? But the Joes counter to the CGs and the fact they may as well be Lawyers or other critical roles as a Pys Ops, Civil Affairs group is Awesome. I think I might have to Join Psyche -Out to the SB team. Who are you using as the overall Steel Brigade Commander? " Thanks Loose I was thinking of making Psyche Out the Commanding Officer but he's in charge of the Information Ops at the Pitt As unimaginative as it sounds, I'll probably use the Con SB Commander as their leader. And thanks, Grunt went to GA tech, d'oh "Just to echo Loose Cannon, it's an excellent way to organize and use Steel Brigade. Really, really well thought out. I like it a lot. Bullet Proof might be a good Joe for you to think about using with Steel Brigade. He's a U.S. Marshal, so working within U.S. Boarders and with local law enforcement would be a natural fit for him." Thanks Oliver I thought about using Bullet Proof as I envision the SB guys as both military and civilian experts. I'm just having a hard time prying him away from the urban / DEF / security unit I have him heading currently. The way I envision the SB unit, I want to use the vintage SB, Hulkbusters and Pit Commandos as Security / Urban warfare etc like Oliver and Troynos but then have say the Anti Venom Task Force (new characters in my 'verse) as members of the CDC, PHSS etc. I have some frankensteined vintage joes who are meterologists, vulcanologists etc (from the era of 90's disaster films) and they'll be from the other uniformed services like the NOAA and the PHSCC along with other agencies like Secret Service, ICE personnel etc. I guess it's just a convenient way to get characters like John McClaine to have a convenient place in my joeverse. "Sounds like Global Frequency for the military. I like it." heh heh thanks Fogger! didn't occur to me till you said that but yeah I guess it is. I loved Global Frequency, but then I dig just about anything by Ellis. He's a funny ba$tard in real life too. I've met him a few times at Comic Cons. He's awesome. |

Some members are ex-military or ex-intelligence, some scientists or academics - there's one story where a Frequency member is a Parkour runner. The organization is an open secret - everyone has heard of it but few people know the members (or know that they know a member). It's basically set up with a remit to stop bad things form happening - Ellis said once that he came up with the idea after 9/11, thinking of a hero team in a world without super-heroes. It's very science fiction - there's a story about lethal viruses being released in London, and one that has a cyborg gone mad. In one issue they're trying to stop a bunch of terrorists from killing hostages, in another they're investigating mysterious goings-on in a small town, in another it's a downloaded virus from space (that SETI accidentally picked up). The series was almost entirely a set of unconnected stories, almost like a TV series. They tried to get a TV series up and running, actually, but it folded before airing. The pilot episode made it to a bunch of torrent sites, supposedly, but I haven't seen it. Definitely worth checking out from the library, at least. I think it was absolutely brilliant - it's one of my favorite little series, in fact, but I'm a bit biased towards Ellis. The book is SOG: The Secret Wars of American Commandos in Vietnam. It was written by John Plaster, retired Major, sniper and Green Beret. I'm only a quarter of the way through the book, but so far it's been fascinating. These SOG recon teams operated clandestinely in North Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia, and sometimes without any close air support because even one downed F-4 would have spelled political disaster for the US, although a whole recon team was virtually expendable and would be denied if captured or killed. I'm in Ohio now so I"ll fill you in with more details when I get the chance, but it's a worthwhile book.

So I've been working on my Cobra Eels. Part of the challenge is that 25th Eels are hard to come by, but I've been working on this problem for a while.
4 Teams of 5 Eels 1 RoC Eel - Team Leader 1 Target Eel - Team NCO 3 25th Eels What do y'all think?

Nice team, Oliver. I wanted to get the Target Eel but passed because I didn't feel like paying for the Wave Crusher. Love the dark colors though. I just picked up the ROC Paraviper and his black uniform is perfect for nightops; he also stands out as a team leader for the 25th paravipers. I have to say I'm really glad they made this figure. He's a solid design. I hope we get to see these paravipers in the IDW comics.
