Sky Patrol was my Holy Grail for over 10 years. Saw them in the store one day but didn't pick them up. (You know 16yr old aren't suppose to buy toys at least that's what my uncle was thinking.)
Never saw them again, but I was so excited because they were all new characters and their ranks left the rest of the Joes in the dust! It sucks cause it would be a great stand-alone insertion team, they had everything that is needed, they just look bad.

ARAH characters that I'm re-appropriating for Action Force (includes "international" GI Joe team members and the non-Russian members of the Oktober Guard) - Colonel Brekhov (80th Airmobile Regiment - Ukraine) - Red Star (25th Separate Dnipropetrovsk Airborne Brigade - Ukraine) - Big Ben (SAS - UK) - Backstop (JTF2 - Canada) - Skymate (SASR - Australia) - Taurus ("Maroon Berets" - Turkey) - Daina (URNA - Czech Republic) - Horror-Show (1st Infantry Brigade Recon Company - Republic of Georgia) - Wong (Special Duties Unit - Hong Kong/People's Republic of China) - Schrage (Kommando Spezialkräfte - Germany) - Red Dog (NZ SAS - New Zealand/Samoa) Original Palitoy Action Force characters (I'll need to rename some of them to prevent duplication with pre-existing GI Joes, maybe just translate their code names into their respective native languages or barring that, just use their real rank and surnames a la Colonel Brekhov): - Breaker (9º Reggimento d'Assalto Paracadutisti - Italy) - Skip (SBS - UK) - Gaucho (Grupo Aeromóvil de Fuerzas Especiales - Mexico) - Jammer (Army Special Forces - USA) - Quarrel (Détachement Action Rapide et Dissuasion - Switzerland) - Steeler (TAXKD-AL - 1 Taxiarhia Katadromon-Alexiptotiston - Greece) - Wheels (Korps Commandotroepen - Netherlands) - Doc (Marinejegerkommandoen - Norway) - Scout (Kommando Spezialkräfte - Germany) - Tracker (Unidad Especial de Intervención - Spain) - Quickfire (GSG 9 der Bundespolizei - Germany) - Barracuda (Groupe d'Intervention de la Gendarmerie Nationale - France) - Chopper (160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment - USA) - Eagle (SAS - UK) - Stakeout (SBS - UK) - Blades (160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment - USA) - Stalker (VÃ*kingasveitin - Iceland) - Sparrowhawk (Special Forces Group - Belgium) - Hunter (Grupo Aeromóvil de Fuerzas Especiales - Mexico) - Beaver (JTF2 - Canada) - Shark (Commando marine - France) - Leviathan (SBS - UK) - Phones (Irish Army Ranger Wing - Ireland) - Surfer (Navy SEAL - USA) - Dolphin (SBS - UK) - Sky Raider (1st Special Operations Wing - USA) - Blast Off (No. 38 Squadron RAAF - Australia) - Kiwi (NZ SAS - New Zealand) - Hawkwind (Fallskärmsjägarna - Sweden) - Moondancer (Wehdat 777 Qataal - Egypt) I won't be making images and filecards for all of these guys though. A lot of them are redundant, and I can't really work up enough interest to devote that much time doing research for some of the ones that aren't all that unique or interesting at first blush (I'm thinking of making it light/reduced platoon-sized or smaller, about 20 personnel, since they'll just be international counterterrorism advisers/technical leaders working with NATO and the UN and occasionally with GI Joe, and not really a stationed permanent force like GI Joe). I'm also thinking of totally redesigning some of them... I think some of the best international spec-ops units are un-represented in the pre-existing Palitoy Action Force roster, namely Israel's Sayeret, the Philippines' 1st Scout Ranger Regiment, South Korea's 707th Special Mission Unit, and South Africa's Special Forces Brigade. You'll note that these units come from countries that have long-standing civil wars/local insurgencies/internal defense conflicts, so their special operations-capable units are always in a constant state of battle-readiness and re-training. They might not have the same technology as their North American, European, and Australian counterparts, but their practical and proven battle experience, in my opinion, more than makes up for it. I can also probably use some of the Argentinian/Brazilian GIJoe variants (e.g., Glenda, Baioneta) as representatives of Argentinian/Brazilian special operations forces. YOJOE.COM | Filecard Gallery - Altitude
Altitude is a "combat artist". What the heck is that???? He's also a native american. So the Joes have 4 native americans: Spirit, Airborne, Dart and Altitude. So they used his name for the "Ripcord" in the 7-pack, wonder if the filecard will still have him being native american. But what is a combat artist????

Yeah, here's a putative list of the characters I'm considering for Action Force and the special operations-capable services and nations they'll be representing:

Some of the Action Force names are just silly. Dolphin, Phones, Surfer.

I can imagine some of them getting attached to a SOCOM unit (likely PSYOP or Civil Affairs) for technical assistance in making PSYOP and Civil Affairs/Civil-Military Cooperation media products or information operations deception warfare materials. |

There's an army MOS called "multimedia illustrator" (MOS 25M). They work closely with the combat documentation guys and occasionally with public affairs. They're also visualization and video equipment maintainers in a pinch.

Moving right along with the Filecard Project:
Crankcase & Captain Grid-Iron design notes: - Crankcase was pretty much a straightforward translation of the classic design. Always liked the original figure and I hope I was able to do it justice. - Captain Grid-Iron is one of those characters I never really liked. I hated how stupid he looked going into battle with a football helmet and a padded shirt on, and I hated his football-shaped grenades. His characterization in the filecard didn't help make him more appealing either and I had no idea why he was the team's designated hand-to-hand combat specialist when there are at least half a dozen Joes probably more qualified for the position than he is (I don't see how playing quarterback would suddenly make him a combatives expert). I tried to keep certain thematic elements from the original design: I replaced his football helmet with a US Military Academy Black Knights (West Point's football team, where Grid-Iron played quarterback) knitted toque. I dispensed with the padded uniform and replaced it with a PCU (Protective Combat Uniform) in Grid-Iron's classic colours. As for his filecard, I tried to insert some advanced combatives stuff as well as Adjutant General and Force Management courses. Also gave him an advanced degree in HUman Resources Management (I was thinking of an MBA, since Webster University allows personnel officers in the rank of captain to transfer over "credits" gained in Adjutant General Course training in pursuit of either an MBA or an MA in HR Management, but I went with the advanced HR Management degree... it's much more practical and useful in terms of the role I have him filling with the team). I still don't like the character, but in this incarnation, I can at least find him tolerable. See if the changes I've instituted have improved your opinion of the character as well by clicking on the Filecard Project link in my signature and reading his updated filecard for yourself. |

Both are great. Anything for grid-Iron helps. He works fine as the HR guy. crankcase is missing one thing. What about SAS training?

I love Crankcase. I'm mostly indifferent to Grid-Iron (I refuse to use rank as part of anyone's codename), which is a huge improvement in my eyes. You took one of my most hated characters and turned him into a background type of character that doesn't make me want to break things. He doesn't look much like the Grid Iron of old, and I thank you for that. It's nice that he doesn't look like anyone else, thereby keeping his..."uniqueness".
Kudos. |
