I wonder when we see prototypes to have Battle Corps to go back to a more realistic approach, was there someone new at the helm who said no lets kill the line with manimals.
http://yojoe.com/archive/unproduced/rangers.shtml It was already too late and the damage was done, but They should have done a relaunch right then and there. Before Extreme happened, than have to go through the lean years of the late 90s. I hope someone got fired for those decisions. |

I think it was hasbro coming up with Crap he had to write in. Transformers + Star Brigade. That's not larry. I bet Ninja force was only because he had done a decent job with them a few issues earlier and they then launched the toy brand around that. I'm just glad he left out the rest of Ninja force.
I'm glad he was able to do what he wanted with #155. That was a fitting end to the series.

Here's something I've been thinking about in light of our conversation on the International figures... first of all, it kind of bothers me that other countries got variants that we didn't... but I digress
Anyway, of all the Sub-Teams, who should have been members of a certain sub-Team that wasn't? For Example, Snake-Eyes should have been on Night Force. So should Low-Light. And as a side note, if Low-Light had gotten that job with Night Force back in the day, perhaps now he wouldn't have to be doing contract assassinations for people like Troynos. I'm just saying. Snake-Eyes got his own sub-team in the Ninja Force. I think Night force are mostly cool figures for the most part. Tiger Force could have been cooler. The Yellow was a killer for me. I have a few and i enjoy them, but WHY is GREEN such a hard color to use? Recondo looks fine in TF as does Duke and Flint and Wreckage. But Orange and frickin Yellow? I mean I love my convention Hartop and Skystriker, and for some reason TF Outback is calling me. I just wish they would stay mostly traditional. |

Before Extreme happened, than have to go through the lean years of the late 90s. I hope someone got fired for those decisions. Battle Rangers would probably not have been perfect, but I believe it was an attempt to bring the Joes back towards a more military theme. I'm not saying it would have been like 85 - 87, but it would have been a move in the right direction. Flint was supposed to have been in charge of that unit. This would have been Flint's Second Command of a sub-team, his only other being "Eco-Warriors". In every other team he's ever been on: Tiger Force, Night Force, etc. Duke or Falcon was always there to outrank him. The Battle Rangers would have been Flint's command opportunity after Eco-Warriors. Footloose was also supposed to have been on the Battle Rangers roster... in all likelihood, that would have made Footloose Ranger qualified. A pretty big step up for Footloose. Who knows who else would have been on that roster? But whoever it was would have been a Ranger, and that's an exciting possibility... maybe someone like Grunt or Airborne or Spirit or Hit & Run. It would have been nice to have that confirmed. I've have often said on this forum that I would love it if Hasbro did a 5-7 pack of an updated Battle Rangers: the Sub-Team that almost was. And, considering it never went to production, they could very nearly do anything they want with the roster and that could be pretty cool.

I'm with Loose, the colors of alot of the TF guys really turned me off. The browns and greens are great, Recondo and Flint are the best of the lot. The international TF really are out there, but yeah.. TF Outback is calling to me... he's saying "buy me". Airborne, Stalker, Ripcord are naturals for Night Force. I wish the look of Sky Patrol was better. They're too "out there" for me. Making them look more paratrooper-ish would have done wonders.

There were a few moments of reprieve from the insanity, but by and large it was getting crazy for the last 2 years. To be honest, I can't blame Marvel for ending it... I think Mr. Hama sank his own ship. Maybe he just got tired of the constraints of Hasbro. I don't know.
I feel like he was getting a little embittered with the limitations imposed by the terms of GI Joe being a licensed comic as early as just after the Cobra Civil War storyline (issue 77 onwards). I recall some of his responses and comments in the letters section started becoming more curt and tinged with some stinging sarcasm or outright frustration on occasion. |

Alright, I hear what y'all are saying about Tiger Force being crazy colors and Sky Patrol looking too sci-fi or whatever...
Let me ask the question a different way. Let's say they were starting from scratch and they asked y'all to help make the rosters for a Jungle sub-team they were going to call, "Tiger Force". You can help design the uniforms later. Who would you choose? Second: An anti-terrorist/CQB sub-team called "Night Force" Third: An Combat Control/PJ sub-team called "Sky Patrol" Forth: A Marine Recon unit called "Mega Marines" Fifth: An Airborne LRRP unit called "Battle Rangers" Again, the uniforms can be sorted out later... who would you put on the rosters if it were up to you?

The "Battle Ranger" sub-team is one of the worst losses we ever suffered, in my opinion. Especially for Flint fans. Let me explain my theory:
Battle Rangers would probably not have been perfect, but I believe it was an attempt to bring the Joes back towards a more military theme. I'm not saying it would have been like 85 - 87, but it would have been a move in the right direction. Flint was supposed to have been in charge of that unit. I remember seeing a bust of a Shipwreck head that YoJoe thought was supposed to be part of Battle Rangers.

That would have been like when Clutch was assigned to the Mega Marines... Get the heck out of here, Hasbro!
