Something that always kind of bugged me, the Joes (and Cobra) were only carrying out one mission at a time.
Shouldn't Cobra have 5 or more things going on at once? This would make the Joes have to be in multiple locations at once. Maybe 1 or 2 are intell ops only, and 2 or 3 require armed forces. I've always thought of my Joes as two kinds: 1 - The Sneak Black Ops Guys 2 - The Battlefield Guys I see the Joes running multiple missions at the same time. Colton is at the PITT overseeing it all. Hawk is a field general, he'd be leading the major mission in the field. So there's a couple of 5-6 man black ops type missions, a couple of intell gathering missions, and maybe 1 or 2 that require heavy vehicle support and more troops.

The Flagg in deployed somewhere in the Indian Ocean. (Lt. Commander Cutter and a smaller team fight Piracy) Colonel Flint runs a unit operating in Afghanistan. Duke heads a unit in Europe(Mostly intelligence gathering) Claymore is heading a unit in the Far East Currently Flagg III heads the Armor units which await deployment. (But they are on the Flagg.) Flagg Jr is a military Attache serving central and South America. (This is an advisory/training unit, but under him are any action taken in that part of the world) Gen Rey as the Cavalry commander is deployed in Iraq Various other commanders are deployed as needed in the various corners of the world. Africa is a hotbed of activity so smaller units are deployed under various Capts or Majors. Some as direct action units and some as advisors to other Anti-Terrorism outfits. |

As far as the Joes and Cobra running one mission at a time, that was probably just done for storytelling purposes, so as not to bog down an issue of the comic with too many plot threads at once. And obviously, it would never have worked in the cartoon. It'll be interesting to see if Resolute or the new comics tackle more than one mission at a time, since they're both aimed at an older crowd.

Now I'm starting to wonder if they were deployed all over the place then who would the unit commanders be. They would have to be an officer, so who in that Lt to Major would qualify?
Well, Falcon; Claymore; Grid-Iron; Rapid-Fire; Super Trooper; Barrage; Bullet-Proof; Sub-Zero; Steeler; Major Storm; Psyche-Out; Cutter; Sure-Fire possibles: Lt. Torpedo instead of Chief Torpedo Barrel-Roll if he's a Lt as in the Comics Skydive, but he should be an Officer Still the Joes have used NCOs and Warrant officers as commanders, but that doesn't seem to gel with Military standards. |

So far, 1 issue (lol), it seems IDW may at least hint at multiple missions being run at the same time. I've always thought that this is why there were "multiples" of the different specialities (arctic, communication, machine gunner, etc..). I think the toys were meant to replace older figures (Roadblock replaced a retiring Rock 'n Roll, Dial-Tone replaced a retiring Breaker, etc..). But making Joes running multi-missions, means you need a couple of machine gunners, couple comm guys, etc..

I think alot of Joes missions would be small 4-6 man teams and would operate with a Sargeant in charge (lots of 'em in Joe: Stalker, Airborne, Rock 'n Roll). Once start getting above 6-man units for a mission, then the Lts and Capts start getting involved.

Cobra definately needs some more mid-level (Lt, Capt. equivalents) named soldiers to be running missions. Destro, CC, Baroness, etc.. can't be everywhere at once.

I use the Cobra officers as low- to mid-level officers - they can run smaller missions on their own.

Yeah. But I still think they need some more guys that can run missions and are highly skilled/trained and earned some amount of trust and loyalty. If you're good enough to earn a name in Cobra, then you're good to lead a mission.

Custom up some officers, maybe? Could just give them different heads (maybe even Greenshirt heads).
